Man I haven’t had time to do writeup for last one

But pleased Lemon of Troy is still available for my round V pick.

Will writeup both tomorrow

Very nice pick-- I wasn’t sure if I was going to take it next but I was strongly considering it just because it’s such a fan favorite and there’s not really another one like it. (I do rate it very highly.)

“Sounds like Springfield’s got a discipline problem!”
“Must be why we beat them at football nearly half the time!”

Flanders struggling to gun the car as they pan to Homer basting a turkey on the roasting spit is one of my favorite gags.

“Shake harder boy” gets a lot of regular usage out of me.

The writers put together 22 episodes a season of gold for years, the least we can do is draft 10 each.

I assume that I’m reaching here but going to take a personal favorite of mine with "The Last Temptation of Homer.

After a series of mishaps with former employees, Mr Burns hires a new female employee, Mindy Simmons, who Homer is attrached to (“whats a matter Homer, aint’ you ever seen a naked chick i na clam shell before?”). Turns out the feeling is mutual and they have a lot in common (Mindy drooling “Mmm, donuts”). He does his best to avoid her due to this attraction but they end up being sent to an event in Capital City together, where they have to share a room. Homer is afraid he is going to cheat with Mindy after his fortune cookie tells him “you will find happiness with a new love”, leading this this exchange:

What’s wrong?- Oh, yeah. Like you don’t know.- We’re gonna have sex.- Oh.
Well, we don’t have to.
Yes, we do. The cookie told me so.
Well, desserts aren’t always right.
But they’re so sweet.

Of course in the end Homer brings Marge to the hotel room and also find a turkey behind the bed.

Oh Margie. You came and you found me a turkey, on my vacation away from workie

There’s also a B plot where Bart becomes a nerd but I think it’s pretty forgettable.

Man, my theme is fucked. I could barely find 5. I’m gonna have to dig deep in later seasons.

Gonna have to get to the writeup a little later but I will take a personal favorite, a showcase for Springfield’s most hopelessly square resident, "Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadassss Song."

I think @jmakin is up

Have to do after work guys, sorry to slow down the draft. I thought I was only gonna have to pick 1.

I thought that was going to be a retrospective thread proving the two were secretly best friends all along

So as to not slow down the draft, I am submitting my two picks:

“Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington” (Season 3, 1991)
“The Cartridge Family” (Season 9, 1997)

I will do the writeup now

Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington is a great episode

I can’t believe one of my faves hasn’t been picked. Will be miffed if it doesn’t get a spot!

I had a bit of a hard time writing this one up because I couldn’t think of as many funny lines as usual. They are there, of course, but I think this one is a great example of the humor being character-specific. Many of Skinner’s lines aren’t funny on their own, but funny because Skinner is such a hopeless square and his delivery makes them so much funnier. Ditto others in this episode like Marge and Martin. (And the image above is a great example-- that line isn’t funny just to read, but Skinner’s ability to be fascinated by the very dull is hilarious.) There’s also a certain amount of heart in the episode; Skinner is just as genuinely interested in being a principal and connecting to the children as he is in shopping for laundry detergent.

Anyway, Bart needs something for show and tell at school so he brings Santa’s Little Helper. The dog escapes through the vents and eventually gets Skinner fired. Bart and Skinner strike up an odd friendship, while Ned Flanders becomes the new principal and is completely unable to control the school. (Again, in perfectly observed in-character fashion-- “Ned Flanders eliminated detention and put the entire school on the honor system?!”) So Bart has to go track down Skinner at the army base and get him his job back. Highlights include:

  • The Wonder Years-style home movies that open the episode, especially Homer’s beard catching fire and Grampa laughing
  • “How would you like it if twenty years from now people were laughing at things you did?” “Not likely.”
  • “Mom, you’re always trying to give me potatoes. What is it with you?” “I just think they’re neat.”
  • “More testicles mean more iron.”
  • “Um, Ms. Hoover? There’s a dog in the vents.” “Ralph, remember the time you said Snagglepuss was outside?” “He was going to the bathroom.”
  • “I mean, it sounds so made up. ‘Yom Kip-Pur’?”
  • “Children, remain calm. There is a dog in the vents.” “YAAAAAAAAY!!”
  • “I cannot fit in tha wee vent, ya croquet-playin’ mitt-muncher!” “Grease yourself up and go in, you… guff-speaking work-slacker.” “Ooh, good comeback.”
  • “‘Tis more dizzyin’ than tha belfry at St. Corgegluynwaagen’s!”
  • “Class after class of ugly, ugly children!”
  • “Did you call me a liar?” “No, I said you’re fired.” “Oh. Oh, that’s much worse.”
  • Chalmers’ meltdown over being unable to get laughs from the kids
  • “Young man, your gargantuan cone is making a mockery of our self-serve policy!”
  • Skinner’s pitch for Billy and the Cloneasaurus and Apu berating him
  • Skinner getting shot in the back at a USO show
  • “Hey, Salvatore, guess who’s here! Mr. Kookalamanza and-a some real ugly kid!”
  • “I myself received a number of medals for securing that Montgomery Ward in Kuwait City.”
  • The first appearance of Ned’s beatnik parents
  • Skinner’s cleaned-up call-and-response marches
  • The first appearance of Maggie’s rival baby with the one eyebrow
  • Launching missiles at Kwik-E-Mart
  • “Once he found out we were gonna get Ned Flanders fired, he insisted on helping.” “That is true.”
  • The “KICK ME” / “TEACH ME” signs at the end

In conclusion,
