I rode my mom pretty hard, w/o getting too graphic about how awful it would be for her to die alone on a ventilatior, and thought she was getting it. Then she calls me from Microcenter where her and my stepdad are shopping for a computer.
So for the next level, I kind of did with my Mom what I used to do with the teen in my life - tell a story that illustrates the point I want to get across, but w/o her being the main character in the story, so itâs not a direct confrontation kind of thing.
Later on when the context wasnât me getting on her for Microcenter, I talked about how some people just werenât getting it (her: I know, I know) and I donât think some can really grasp how awful it will be to die alone in a hospital, in pain, on a ventilator, and have to say goodbye to your loved ones over facetime, at least until it happens to someone they know (she got quiet at this). But thankfully you get it, Mom, and no more Microcenter, right? Oh yes, Iâll be very safe. Donât worry about me.
Narrator: well, you tried
At least my Dad is sufficiently terrified about this and I only have to worry about one parent.
My Dad is 78 and a few months ago talked about looking into assisted living for the first time. Which makes me incredibly sad but also soooooooooooo glad it hadnât happened yet when this hit.
Until a few years ago my dad worked part time in an assisted living home. I am also sooooooo glad heâs fully retired now. He was older than some of the residents lol.
Nobody in Puerto Rico has received US bailout chequeâ
The mayor of San Juan, the largest city in Puerto Rico, says not a single person on the US island territory has yet received their $1,200 stimulus cheque from the US federal government.
Mayor Carmen YulĂn Cruz told MSNBC on Saturday: âNo-one in Puerto Rico has received their $1,200 coronavirus stimulus cheques from the federal government. Weâre having problems with a local $500 cheque that the governor said was going to be distributed.â
She added that there was a backlog of around 130,000 unemployment applications.
Earlier this week, the islandâs treasury secretary said around 486,000 Puerto Ricans should expect to receive an email this weekend informing them that they are eligible to receive the federal bailout money.
