The chief of the Capitol Police directly reports to the Capitol Police Board, whose three members are the sergeants of arms for the House and Senate and the Architect of the Capitol.
Oversight is by the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, currently chaired by Roy Blount (Klobuchar is the current ranking member), and the House Administration Committee, currently chaired by Zoe Lofgren.

Looking back at yesterday’s events, this type of activity absolutely could have wreaked a lot of havoc with the election if they were smarter about it. Remember lots of posters here worrying about Trumpers storming vote-counting facilities in Philadelphia or Detroit. It could have worked, especially if Trump organized his followers the way he did yesterday. We’re just lucky that we’re dealing with one of the dumbest would-be dictators of all time.

They still almost got a hold of the official certificates from each state - which probably would have gunked up the works for a while because duh gotta have bureaucratic foofery.
I called some maga woman a twat, I am also sentenced to 12 hours of Twitter band camp. Pretty sure she’s a bot too.

They would’ve had to send replacements so possibly a state legislature would’ve voted to send a different one, like PA.
Or they could have gotten a hold of a couple of Democratic Senators. We really dodged some nightmare scenarios yesterday.

Good to know that it’s clear that the line for republicans is “attempted coup”. Not deranged lunatic, or racist, or any of the other stuff Trump has done. But “attempted coup” is the line you can’t cross if you still expect support.
ETA: probably more like an attempted coup that looks like the majority of people don’t support.
