Jeopardy! Thread (No spoilers until after the show EST)

Maureen is exactly the person I’d expect to meet at a Hillary fundraiser.

Do you all notice that whenever they do a category related to economics or business (which is rarely), the contestants are generally clueless? Last night we had:

Bank “C” (how clever) in Jeopardy round for $600:

Clue: It’s payment earned on the sum of an original principal plus the money the principal has already accrued

What is compound interest?

TRIPLE STUMPER

Bank “C” in Jeopardy round for $800:

Clue: Also called a cap, it’s the upper limit of a variable in a transaction, like the rate of an adjustable-rate mortgage

What is the ceiling?

TRIPLE STUMPER

Also two wrong answers in that category on CD being certificate of deposit and “collateral” being the thing you put up against a loan. Like I said before, the show is definitely written by and for a certain type of person (the kind that knows every detail about every minor character in Hamlet but has never heard of compound interest).

Not sure I would have gotten compound interest in time because my brain is calibrated to think of one word answers in that type of category.

I assume they would have accepted “compounding.” But you bring up another good point which is that the writers for this show are fucking terrible.

I have some snitch energy to work off

I wish I could be one those people who travels to a location and reads a video clue. What a sweet job.

My students simply don’t get Jeopardy. Like they know the rules, but it doesn’t necessarily make sense to them.

From their perspective, I get it. If you were to answer the question “Who is Thomas Jefferson?” with an answer from a Jeopardy clue, people would think you were insane. Human beings don’t speak like written Jeopardy clues. So it is extremely weird if you aren’t familiar with the game at a young age. Oh and have English as your second or third language.

Getting caught up

Just saw the one where the champ bet it all from first to lose. Then the next night the new champ did the same thing, but got it right. Unbelievable. Back to back nights all in from first.

I believe she did it again the following night

Middle podium my hero today. Won a triple stumper from a close third with a small wager.

Of course it shouldn’t have been a triple stumper.

Adopted in 1845, the name of this state capital is a feminized form of a big body of water

Summary

Atlanta, the trick is to think of large bodies of water first vs trying all the capitals. I thought Pacific-Pacifica and then immediately went to Atlantic-Atlanta.

Wouldn’t have gotten it. To me, Altantica would have been the feminized form.

Kind of a lame one.

I thought it was Jefferson City

the date threw me off. The correct answer popped into my head but I figured it was older than 1845.

Many states moved their capitals.

Atlanta didn’t become capital until 1868. I can see why that’d throw someone off.

Omg wtf some college kid just completely biffed a Wheel of Fortune puzzle. Two letters left, obvious what they were, and they were both the same. Pat prompted the dude for the letter with an attitude implying everyone in the universe knew the answer. Kid VERY confidently said the wrong letter and I still have no idea what he thought the word was.

All the puzzles are college related

LEAVING MY LA_TO_ AT HOME

He asked for…F

Edit: It was a repeat, but it was new to me.

Need to dig out my rubber brick for every time MB says “that’s correct”.

Lady with pretty decent lead gets back to back DD and bets small and fails to secure lock game. Still wins in FJ. Karma sucks.
