this is a response to the thread about the current mods finding the job intolerable and the community being at risk of dying. mods and posters both can benefit from an independent council to review complaints about moderation. it’s understandable from the user’s perspective that they don’t want the person deciding if a mod action is fair to be that mod who made the decision in the first place. similarly, the mods are put in a position where they’re the police and the courts while they’re workin…

I didn’t think that was actually a requirement. As @otatop has pointed out, we don’t actually have any rules for mods on this site. I will log them right now.

Should note, with everything in the open that the person who unbanned Churchill and jalfrezi also failed to log that in.

That would be a solid argument if there were not five other mods none of whom are currently subject to a poll regarding their mod status. But you of course know this.

There’s a lot of crap to wade through here, but it seems like meb has only banned obvious troll accounts so far? Once he gets the hang of updating the moderation actions threads, everything will be fine.

I can only conclude that he did this because it became clear that other mods or the forum at large would eventually reverse his bans. These actions are not only unprecedented on this forum, they also go against the assurances that he made to other forum staff.
