lol wut? Our food is tortured before it’s killed but between decent inspection standards and all of the drugs/bleaches in our food supply North American food safety is GOAT. All of the processed crap is garbage but meat specifically is as safe as it’s ever been… like… ever?
On a bet I’d be comfy eating almost any of the meat from a normal middle class grocery store raw. The chicken would make me vomit but I wouldn’t be concerned about the tiny chance of me getting sick.
The European take on GMOs and food additives is less precautionary principle and more weird anti-science and elitism.
I don’t know what part of “Cooking Good Food” says “Ranting against Bon Appetit for nothing that has to do with cooking good food” to you, but it doesn’t say it to me. It’s a worthy topic, but it’s getting moved. This is for food porn and the occasional questions.
Here’s some more appropriate content. One of our go to vegetarian meals is tempeh Reubens. This is a good veg dish for non vegetarians since its basically melty cheesy pub food.
He’s a North American patriot kid who doesn’t know what he’s saying.
I didn’t watch the Dispatches programme yet but we’ve known for a long time about steroids in US beef and chlorinated chicken.
Who knows how harmful it is to humans? I know I won’t be eating any of it just in case, but that’s because I’m one of the fortunate ones here who are still solvent. People who are struggling will be tempted or forced to eat this dubious cheap shit after a US trade deal, whether they want to or not. And then there’s the matter of it being adopted by fast food places.
(Also, Aberdeen Angus steak is probably the best I’ve eaten, an opinion shared by an old butcher mate of mine, and I always choose it when it’s available)
