Working out / health and fitness

about?

Careful when you say that. According to Prana you’ve just recommended that drinking a gallon of milk a day is part of this great beginning program. Despite the fact that your meaning is quite clear.

You seem to be saying he recommends GOMAD for every trainee. I don’t think that’s the case based on the paragraph I posted

Did you read the rest?

If this or its equivalent did not happen, you’re not doing the program. During this period of time it is common to gain 5-10 pounds of bodyweight if you are underweight, or to stay about the same if you are in need of bodyfat loss. In this demographic you’re too fat if you’re over 20% and underweight if you’re less than 10%. A bodyfat under about 10% is not the level a performance athlete carries, and growing a significant amount of muscle mass will entail an increase in bodyfat level, so this number – since we need to choose one for you – serves well as the bottom line. A bodyfat level over about 20% means that you’re headed in the direction of carrying around more than is required for an anabolic environment and more than is efficient for moving either the bar or an opponent. But really, you already know where you are when you start; guys who feel the need to start training always know why they did it.

I slightly tweaked the program and just pour the gallon of milk all over my body instead. I call it SS + GOMAOMBAD.

I guess I don’t understand what you’re trying to say

OK.

I guess that’s where you and I fundamentally disagree. If he’s adamant about not doing it, then your approach reduces to doing nothing. I think it’s better to try to give him some decent advice (especially realizing that there will be a lot of shit advice posted, and mitigating that has value). Yes, it’s a very poor substitute for the type of clinic LFS described. But I think that doing that is better than doing nothing, or futilely trying to convince him to do something that he was pretty clear he wasn’t going to do.

Here was my post that started this. Is that not clear?

I think programs like Starting Strength do not promote overall heart health and fitness. Right? We can see that? I mean, he recommends drinking a gallon of whole milk a day for gainz. When I felt my best I was able to jump rope for 30-45 minutes at a time while lifting weights, walking 10+ miles a day and also non-weight exercises like burpees, crunches, etc. Not a scientist so don’t rip me. I do know that lifting weights is a huge boon to keeping mobile when old though so I think there must be a balance.

I made a digital sketch of GOMAD once a long time ago and the internet has never seen it. Is now a great time to drop it?

NFT?!

Not clear to me. Rip doesn’t want 300lb fatty novice ssers to run a huge calorie surplus. Agree that powerlifting doesn’t generally look to maximize cardiovascular health.

He advocates for skinnies to take on fat and calories by drinking whole milk by the gallon or any means necessary. WTF is so difficult about this?

No this is probably from around 2008 but I could tokenize it I guess. There is a rough sketch and an unfinished poker card version.

Let me see if I can help Prana out.

What he is trying to say is that even though all three of us agree that there is probably value to doing the SS lifting regimen without a ridiculous caloric surplus, if someone says they think “SS is a good idea” in any way, shape, or form, then they are absolutely defending the consumption a ridiculous surplus. Despite anything else they may have said about such a surplus being a bad idea.

Well, sort of. His goal for ectos is for them to run a major calorie surplus during their novice period. Milk has good ratios and is an easy and cheap way to do it. It’s probably bad for your heart. Maybe we don’t actually disagree?

That’s beautiful

I can’t believe I’m hearing this on this forum. Rippetoe advocates it. That’s all I’ve been saying. JFC. I don’t and said I don’t when I first said it is not heart healthy. Am I in bizarro world?
