Like I said, man, when I wrote SS and GOMAD are separate, that was imprecise and I assumed that any reasonable person could understand what I meant. I was wrong.
I mean if you do a quick google search of SS + GOMAD, you will find a ton of hits. Why would that even be the case? If SS includes GOMAD, it would be redundant, wouldn’t it? Yet people use that phrasing constantly.
So, I used that terminology as well, since it’s ubiquitous. However, you’re correct that Rip himself would tell you that GOMAD is part of it. Now that we’ve cleared that up, what’s your beef?
This entire argument is basically me calling a tomato a vegetable, and you coming back with the fact that a tomato is a fruit. Yes, you’re right, but we both agree a tomato is a tomato.
OK. No beef. Sorry if you thought there was beef. Your defense of SS is weird is all considering. And if you thought that you would have agreed with my first statement that’s weird because here we are.
Of course SS + GoMAD gets hits. Mark recommends it and there are thousands of people talking about him recommending it in his program. ffs. Amazing again. Later bro.
See, this makes no sense according to your world view.
Why on earth would Mark recommend SS + GOMAD, if SS already includes GOMAD. That doesn’t make sense, does it? Maybe you should tell Rip he doesn’t understand his own program.
“Well, Mark, you see, it makes no sense to say SS + GOMAD, because if you say SS, the GOMAD is implied. So what you’re really saying is SS lifting + GOMAD + GOMAD, and it makes no sense to say that.”
It’s really simple. If Rippetoe himself thinks that SS includes GOMAD, then why would he ever feel the need to say SS + GOMAD. It’s redundant. There would be no need for him to say it. He would just say SS because the GOMAD is implied.
You’re claiming that SS includes drinking a gallon of milk a day. If SS includes that, then why would Rip himself (or anyone else) feel the need to ever say SS + GOMAD (or SS + drink a gallon of milk a day). It would be redundant, right?
The reason why is because when many people say “SS”, they are really only referring to the lifting regimen (even though, as you point out, Rip himself would say that is not right).
This is fucking dumb af. Mark says if you aren’t caloric overloading you should drink a gallon of milk a day or eat more. He literally says if you aren’t caloric overloading you are not doing the program as he intended. JFC
You dumb fucks miss the question off whether the SS program is heart healthy and Melkerson is just melting down.
Does doing the same SS weights with decreased calories change the workout? That’s probably a cool discussion. It’s not SS as Mark intended.
I would absolutely keep telling him to see an expert. If any person came here and was as morbidly obese and aggressively ignorant as YTF, I’d tell them to seek professional help. Sorry but I’m not interested in teaching nutrition from the ground up to a 400 lb person who cherry-picks the bits and pieces they like the most. They have far more problems than just the weight and will only focus on the weight followed by plastic surgery. Hard pass.
Nah, man. Literally no one missed it. It’s just not even a question to most people. Except for the hardcore Rip slurpers (of which there are very few) no one thinks that you need to have a ridiculous surplus to do the SS lifting regimen. (And most people will still refer to this as doing SS, even though, you’re right that Rip would disagree with that characterization).
Also, if you actually interested in getting back on topic, I don’t primarily object to the ridiculous caloric surplus because it is not “heart healthy”. That’s likely true in most cases, but it’s not my main reason. The main reason is that it is just unnecessary.
“Eating correctly may mean 6000 calories/day with a gallon of whole milk, or it may mean 3500 calories/day on a paleo-type lower carb no-dairy diet, depending on your initial body composition.”
