My 1st night in my new home, my 1st ever home tbh… Goto the estate agent, see a flat in the window exactly where I want to be…
I get it… Yes… Pay £990 up front… 1 months rent and 2 months in advance… Superb.
Goto the house and get my stuff from the hostel and the council guys give me a lift and a helping hand… Great stuff as they even bought me a chippy later on as I couldn’t pay them either they said its there thank you to me, great stuff and I’m chuffed as bits.
It took us 2 runs and like 6 hours total for the flitting And we were not exactly quiet…
Guys leave at around 5pm…I start to chill out a roll 1 and it’s 10pm then comes the knock I’ve been dreading… Its the Police is the call. FUCKKKKK I’m homeless again I think to me self.
So I open the door with the glum face expecting the handcuffs, and in walks 2 officers and 2 old men in which 1 of the goes straight to my bedroom and I realised right there as 1 of the officers says to him to stand in the hallway IF it’s OK with me… And the officer immediately asks for my lease.
I oblidge and he goes through it, checks my receipt and asks a few short questions of where the estate agents are and when I signed my contract did I read it all.
I’m like well of course not, I was just so happy I got accepted for a lease and he gives me advice on how to make sure I know the ins and outs by recommendations of housing lawyers and that IF I wanted to take action against these 2 oldmen in my house I could and I just ask if they can be removed from my home and warned.
The officers preceded to remove the 2 men and leave themselves saying that they won’t be back unless I call them and if these same 2 men are seen in or around the rented property to call the station and I can enact a harassment claim, warning the 2 men that if they come back without reason or a call from the estate agent then there getting a visit from the officers again, and he gave them a stern warning as I closed my door for the night.
I do not think this exact scenario would have happened the way it did in many places around the UK and our police force tend to side with tenants more often than not.
Owners of the houses who let it to estate agents appearing at your rented apartment on the 1st night was a surprise tbh. I expected it the 2nd day but not that night…
