If I recall correctly, this is the second wildfire caused by a gender reveal explosion gone wrong. The other was in Arizona I think? Border patrol agent or something?

In April 2017, an off-duty US border patrol agent, Dennis Dickey, caused $8m of damage to 19,000 hectares (47,000 acres) of Arizona forest when he shot at a target full of blue-coloured explosive as a means of announcing the gender of his unborn child.
In October 2019, a woman was killed when a home-made device that was meant to discharge coloured powder exploded at a gender-reveal party in Iowa.
And last year an airplane crash in Texas was also attributed to a gender-reveal party, as a plan to dump 350 gallons (1,300 litres) of pink water went awry.
What the fuck is wrong with like balloons, frosting, tie die, confetti, pinatas, or water balloons with food coloring? How many people are hell-bent on blowing shit up to announce the gender of their unborn child?
Imagine being the kid and finding out as a teenager or whatever that your parents set thousands of acres on fire to announce your gender to like 20 people.

I don’t remember ever hearing about gender reveal parties until that fool CBP agent burned down part of AZ. From the headline, I assumed it was the CBP fool himself announcing he was a non-binary/etc.

A burning twig would have come in handy here in SLC today. Power out. Having to heat water for coffee on a gas stove like our prehistoric ancestors did. Had to scrounge for a lighter to light the burner. Phone down to 48% already. OMG. Big trees down across the street due to high winds. Local TV cameras there. Trees down must be the big story of the day.
Basically 85K people being evacuated. Not good.

just got the official Santa Ana wind warning on the emergency alert system. It’ll be in place all night tonight and all day tomorrow. It’s pretty calm right now, but if it does kick up to 45 mph like they are saying, that Valley Fire here in SD county is gonna be a big problem.
