Who will run in 2020?

19% of “very liberal” Democrats go for Biden… lol

I’m really pulling for Warren and I like Mayor Pete, and I may dump on Biden now and then, and I do think it should be illegal for people over 70 to run for federal office. BUT I’ve followed Biden for 25 and if you told me 15 years ago Biden would be president I’d be happy about it, and even today I’ll be more than ok if he defeats Trump.

The problem is that Biden is campaigning like he’s running for office 15 years ago, today.

Warren looking pretty solid. Getting the Obama (Warren) vs Hillary (Biden) vibe but with Bernie/Pete as potential spoilers (ie, they won’t win but could hurt Warren).

Warren is awesome and all but I really do worry about her in the general. Hopefully she learned her lesson and doesn’t respond to his attacks and just hammers away at the issues Bernie style.

Last poll I saw had her as the only significant dem candidate losing to Trump.

I worry about Warren, but as with Obama in '08 I think she would ultimately prove to be the best candidate of the Dem field. She’s more of a warrior than Biden, who will have a bunch of flubs and such. Harris lacks some charisma and has a bit of neediness (like Gillibrand, but not as bad). I suspect mayor Pete would also do well but has some significant negatives. Bernie is Bernie, and while I think he’d be a solid candidate, I prefer Warren. Warren also has by far the deepest bench of commited experts, not just some people whose hearts are in the right place. I would LOVE for Warren to appoint judges.

It’s this, but especially this in MI/WI/MN. IDGAF what people in SC think of her, or NY for that matter.

If Warren can’t win an election vs. Trump then this country needs to be destroyed from within. It’s disgusting to be looking at the Dem field and having to wonder which one of them can beat Donald fucking Trump. Our society is complete garbage.

Pretty strong argument for Biden if he’s consistently polling better than Warren or Sanders in a matchup agaainst Trump. I have no idea how people watched him act like a doddering old man on stage and thought “he’s the one,” but here we are. lol Dems.

I am not looking forward to Biden/Trump debates.

I’m super unstressed about Warren vs Trump. She’s going to roll him. She’s running a great campaign and is the real thing. At this stage the talents/ability of the candidates matters a whole lot more than polling. We’ve seen that time and time again. Sometimes front runners hold, but usually that’s because they are great candidates.

I can’t stress enough how critically important it is for the person who runs against Trump to be a very capable person. We didn’t realize it at the time but Obama beating HRC in 2008 was 100% about execution.

Biden is trash at this. Truly trash. Him and Bernie are the only two major Dem candidates Trump isn’t drawing dead against. Biden’s problems winning start with the fact that he’s an insider who has a ton of dirt on him (rendering attacks on Trumps incredible corruption relatively impotent) and end with him being hilariously uninspiring to anyone under the age of 50.

Bernie’s problem is that he’s a fruitcake. Sorry not sorry.

Bingo. A Biden nomination will crater the youth vote.

We need a captivating nominee to not only defeat Trump, but to try to take back the senate.

Not try. We HAVE to take back the Senate. Winning the presidency and not taking back the Senate isn’t that much better than just losing both and having Trump finish killing the GOP.

At this point the country needs to do SOMETHING. The biggest single cause of the current political meta where politicians say increasingly wild things is the fact that none of it ever gets done and they never have to face the consequences of what they are ‘for’. There are a huge number of ideas politicians throw around (mostly on the GOP side) that are somewhat popular when they haven’t gotten done that would be complete disasters if actually executed.

I know it’s weird but I wanted Trumps entire agenda to get done… So that the general population would rise up enraged at the results and end the GOP. So much of the GOP platform is a straight up scam that will never, ever be executed. That’s why Roe v Wade won’t get overturned even though they ‘control’ the SCOTUS. It’s because overturning Roe v Wade would open up the Christian vote in a way we haven’t seen since Roe (the teachings of Christ are not very Republican) and also because the simple majority of Americans are pro choice and overturning Roe would help them turn out. All in all it would be a huge political disaster for the GOP to lose Roe. There are lots of other GOP policies like this. I’d be OK with them actually accomplishing their batshit crazy agenda as long as we could hang it around their necks like a burning tire in 2020 and win the house + senate + WH and blow up the filibuster.

While I can relate to that sentiment, I think it underestimates how incredibly hard it would be undo all of the bad that would be done along the way, especially due to the hard right turn that the judicial branch has taken. The American public might be angry, but they’d also be stuck with some fucking terrible laws for a long time.

I mean fucking terrible laws can be undone as easily as they were done. I’m for an environment where things, even bad things, actually get done. The problem at this point is more that nothing, good or bad, is getting done… and I’d make quite a few short term sacrifices to get us out of this particular ditch.

The GOP is going to have to chang their entire policy approach in Kansas and Wisconsin. That’s because they got to try their nonsense out and it was a complete disaster. Sometimes people have to taste the food to realize how much they don’t like it. If that’s what it takes to invalidate some of these truly stupid ideas the GOP likes to run on, I say let’s take our medicine and move on.

I entertained these thoughts after 2016. But 2018 killed any hope of that for me.

Mayor Pete’s in town tonight, may go see what he has to say

I recommend it. I went to see Bernie earlier this year, and I am actively waiting to see Warren live, too. Yeah, I’m voting for Pete but I still want to see what the others have to say, especially live, when I can judge the attitude of the crowd, and hear them with no media spin whatsoever.

Because not that many people watched the second debate.

My state doesn’t hold its primary until things are all but decided, so I assume there’s some strat behind him coming here

He’s in Miami tomorrow morning for a National Association of Black Journalists convention.

Along with Booker, Sanders and Weld (lol)
