Made it to Pete’s strategy employing the “yearning for reconciliation” before I had to quit.
He didn’t say that.
TELL ME he did not just say that.
The article says that is his campaign strategy but does not directly quote him unless it happened after I couldn’t handle it anymore.
McConnell on the $768B war bill:
“We’ll finally put this vital legislation on the president’s desk. I look forward to voting to pass the NDAA today by another overwhelming bipartisan vote for our service members and the critical missions they carry out,” McConnell said
Pete doesn’t have to worry. Reconciliation achieved!
Also that’s not the issue. The issue is the false smear that Cenk was sympathetic to Duke. It is a deliberate lie that is being shamelessly pushed by the DemE and promulgated by their allies in mainstream media. No one could watch the video or even a small clip of the video with Duke and conclude Cenk was expressing a sincere opinion when he said “no of course not” about Duke being racist. It’s a baseless smear, plain and simple. Last year the same thing was done to Laura Moser in Texas (they pretended she said her district sucks, a total lie) and again the mainstream media played right into it. It’s a pattern, and it’s on purpose.
I’m all for shunning and shaming the fuck out of racists. But what I’m saying is that when they twist or misrepresent a fact to justify their racism, we shouldn’t back away from it. One easy example is when someone tries to use the statistic that more black people are in prison because they’re inherently more violent. This needs to be addressed because they are citing a correct statistic (more blacks than whites are in prison) while arriving at a wildly wrong conclusion (blacks are inherently more violent). So you absolutely should debate them. Not for THEIR benefit (they’re probably beyond hope), but for the benefit of EVERYONE ELSE who is watching, listening, or reading in the audience (btw, do you seriously think Cenk debated Duke because he was trying to change the minds of HIS audience members?)
The other thing about shaming is that it simply doesn’t work. There’s no better example of this than the 2016 election. Trump and his “deplorable” supporters were shamed endlessly by the left and MSM and he got elected anyway. Even almost 3 years into his tenure, I don’t think there’s ever been a president so consistently and relentlessly shamed. I’ve never seen so many pics of a POTUS in diapers and other shameful memes, yet he still (or at least until very recently) enjoys the support of over 90% Republicans! So tell me again how productive shaming is. The problem with the left (and MSM) and the REAL reason we’re in this mess is because we’ve preferred shaming over debating facts imo
New Emerson Poll
My god these cross tabs. 4% of Pete’s support is under 30, 0% latino, and 1% black. He’s HATED by these voters.
Also crosstabs tell the story of why Warren’s choice to get away from M4A was the end of her campaign. Over half her base (what’s left of it), still prefers M4A heavily over all alternatives. Huge mistake.
The real bombshell: 44% of Biden’s supporters are most supportive of M4A. Higher than Public Option + Keep as is COMBINED.
Analysis: Bernie is the only candidate for M4A, as long as he hammers this home and wins NH/Iowa, it’s over.
HERE. COMES. BERNIE.
I like how Deval Patrick scored a perfectly symmetrical 0% in all categories (or infinity% depending on how you calculate)
Biden doing better with olds makes perfect sense to me. But I straight up don’t get how Biden performs better among black voters than Bernie. There must be something I missed or don’t get
“Phone records provide ‘irrefutable proof’ of sexual assault allegations against Trump, lawyer says”
Black voters may be more Democratic, but they’re also more conservative.
If the GOP hadn’t been subject to the iron law of institutions (people in power at institutions care more about their own personal power inside the institution than they do about the health or overall power of that institution) they would have dumped every last shred of racism after 2012. The % of christian conservatives in the nonwhite population (particularly among Hispanics but also Blacks) is much higher than among whites.
Long term locking kids in cages is massively massively -EV for the GOP. They are well on their way to turning the incoming climate change driven migrant wave into a blue voting bloc instead of a red one. That was their opportunity to retain parity after 2030 and now they’ve probably blown it.
Unfortunately racism is one of the things that unites the modern GOP, absolutely including their politicians. It’s hard for an actual racist to see that their racism is a hugely -EV long term problem.
A pro immigration GOP would have been lobbying to make becoming a citizen easier so that they could harvest those sweet conservative catholic votes from central America. That would really let them double down on the homophobia and the pro life stuff.
Like the white majority, Conservative Christianity (and religion in general) has been decreasing in percentage of the population and will likely continue too. Maybe if they dumped racism and doubled down on religion they would have been better off long-term, but I dunno. If anything, they past few years have shown that racism couldn’t be dumped and truly was core to the GOP–and that conservative Christians would go along for the ride, because they don’t hold any actual beliefs other than racism and tribal supremacy themselves.
By doubling down on racism, the GOP secured a Presidency and is drawing live (current favorite?) to win a second, all while making sweeping systemic changes to rig the political apparatus in their favor. Maybe this was the right move for them long term…
Younger whites are a lot less racist than their parents and grandparents… and climate change is going to bring waves of migrants that make the current levels look tiny.
Human beings are wired on an almost genetic level to think one of two ways: ‘how do I protect what I have’ (conservative) or ‘how do I improve what I have’ (liberal). The GOP has managed to get an awful lot of people from the first group, who would be their natural voters, to never ever vote for them because they are the wrong skin color. Black churches are full of people who are very similar outlook wise to the people in white churches, but there’s zero chance that they will ever vote for the GOP because racism.
Yes in the short term turbocharging white racist turnout was a good political strategy… but how good is open to debate. They’ve badly lost every election since 2016 on the balance, and despite the pervasive sense of waaf we’re all getting 11 months before the next presidential election there’s no real reason to believe they aren’t going to get smashed hard in 2020.
Actually if the GOP could figure out how to drop the homophobia (I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the major religions of the world seem to be trending this way naturally) they’d pick up yet another group of people who aren’t actually all that liberal.
Lol Pete:
This dude was my #3 at one point. If he was half as smart as people think he is he wouldn’t have blown up his entire political career at 37 years old going all in on being the youngest president of the modern era.
He’s just massively out of step with the direction politics are going. He’s fighting the last war and it really shows. Absolutely nothing about his campaign or the line he took in it is going to age well. He did take out Warren by getting her to renounce M4A though.
Of course the GOP is screwed long term under the current rules, which are laughably rigged in their favor to begin with. They know this. It’s why they’re all in on cheating.
They are already at the outer limits of how much you can cheat without causing the system to break apart. Pretty unlikely that their donors want the system to actually break apart. If they wanted to live in a dictatorship they probably already would. The problem with dicatorships is already being made manifest with our trade policy and Trumps love of picking winners and losers. There’s a reason the Koch network is not made up of Trump fans.
There comes a moment in war when you need to retreat to prevent it turning into a rout and losing everything. The GOP is approaching the point of no return quickly if they didn’t already cross it with Trump. I think there’s a very decent (like 5-10%) chance that they are already fucked and have ruined everything already from their perspective.
Breaking the low voter turnout that has allowed them to maintain power would absolutely ruin everything for them.
This is unsurprising, and Pete continues to be just astonishingly slimy.
Also it turns out the “Investor’s Circle” isn’t random people with affiliate links for their 10 dollar donations, but is in fact people who have bundled 25k in donations. So sky’s bright eyed and bushy tailed friends are safe.
And while we of course can’t speculate as to why Pete wants to know who bundles for him, that would be assigning motives and we can’t do that, the article does point out that these people are frequently given ambassadorships and other high level posts.
I’m actually super gratified that he’s polling as poorly as he is with younger voters and minorities. It just goes to show that this kind of bullshit has an expiration date that roughly lines up with when the Boomers fuck off.
I’m sure there will be a millennial version of corruption… but corruption goes in cycles. It gets very bad, we have massive reforms, and then slowly over time it comes back. I think we’re closing in on one of those massive reform periods now. Pete picked the wrong side for long term political viability.
