In the short term you’re absolutely right… in the long term there is no evidence to support the conclusion that people get more conservative as they age. They are absolutely fucked long term unless they manage to go full dictatorship or pull a truly epic heel turn.
They’ve already won. The have the judges. They’ve delayed action on climate change long enough to create a crisis that we will never be able to fix, all in the interest of corporate profits. We’ll keep fighting but I don’t like the future prospects of progressivism, at least within our lifetimes.

Look at the timeline of Prohibition and Civil Rights. There’s a moment 3-4 years before things changed massively where things looked super super bleak. That’s where we are right now. We don’t have to do anything remotely as difficult as pass a constitutional amendment.
Let’s be super clear here… if you guys are right you’re absolutely wrong about how it ends. Things won’t just grind along they’ll violently crack up. Political systems in the modern era have to have enough of the will of the people to keep them from becoming violent.
Every single action anyone takes that is opposed by 60%+ of the population brings that outcome closer. Governments fail and empires fall. 99% of the institutions in human history already have.
With sufficient voter turnout expect to see the Supreme Court packed. You guys are right that the judges are the most problematic thing here… but those judges are also the exact place where the political violence I’m talking about will get directed first.
We live in a nation of drones, 3d printers, and easily available firearms. Whatever is truly the will of the people will eventually be done. The less the system reflects those people (weighted toward the people who control blocks of those people of course) the more likely it is stuff starts to go wrong. It’s happened before in many places at many different times.
Yes but hard to argue they are more fucked than they were in the Jim Crow south. Interestingly it’s the remnants of those same people we’re fighting today.

The result is the same, but a lot it is probably that Black voters are overwhelmingly Democratic because of civil rights laws (Blacks skewed Republican before the early 60s) and while they are not more conservative than white voters on average, they are not less so. So, a conservative Black person is more likely to be a Democrat than a conservative white person.
Then they can go off the cliff. If they don’t they’ll crash and burn.
You’re right, climate change is pretty urgent… the donor class is already full on slamming on the brakes on that one. Not the oil industry guys of course (although they are now all admitting that climate change is real… which itself is a phase of the cigarette company science denial cycle), but literally everyone else.
A lot of you guys are full on anti-capitalists which means you think that if capitalism doesn’t fall we’re all fucked. I on the other hand think that capitalism needs major reforms but is basically salvageable. I’m going to get what I want and the rest of you are going to be disappointed on that one. The top 40% of the population loves capitalism and the lifestyle it gives them. It’s also definitely possible to reconfigure it to use fewer environmental resources. It’s still going to leak human capital like it’s going out of style though.

This is false… We are against the Top getting it all… I believe in capitalism in that a equal share for all workers and that means that everyone gets a working wage and the CEO’s need a pay cut… All employees should be on the board with a rotation system etc.

If Trump wins in 2020, it’s ballgame. There will literally be zero check on his behavior. In addition to naked corruption, he will start jailing and killing political opponents, and nobody will stop him. We will, thereafter, have sham elections similar to Russia. It can get REALLY bad, really fast.

We’ve already got perpetual war and 15% more people in prison per capita than Russia (which is also really high). Things are already really bad. Those are bigger deals than the 15 people or whatever Putin’s had assassinated.

There are unlimited firearms, effectively infinite places to hide, and easy access to drones and 3d printers in the US. Also unlike Russia we don’t have a tradition of full blown autocracy.

You misunderstand me. I think things can get awful. I just think that things will get awful for the donor class as well. The whole system collapsing would be the defining experience of every single person who managed to live through it. We’re probably talking a million plus dead over a ten year period.
I think a lot of you associate markets with class, and I think that the way those markets have been run the last 50 years there’s a ton of truth to that.
