there are multiple other sources, this is just the most succinct recap
I didnât listen to what she said, but in general, if there is some speech we want to permit and some we want to ban, we arenât likely to be able to slice it perfectly, so the question is whether we would rather try to permit all the speech we want to allow at the cost of allowing some of the speech that we wish we could ban or would we rather try to ban all the speech that we want to get rid of at the cost of some false positives sweeping up speech that we prefer to allow.
We canât police speech with 100% efficiency, but we can choose what sort of inefficiencies we are more willing to tolerate.
The man is trash. Thatâs why up to now his staffâs strategy has been to keep him away from the media as much as possible, and to make absolutely certain he never got the opportunity to veer off script. Heâs going full Chernobyl every single time someone gets unrestricted access to him for more than 180 seconds. Itâs been happening since he announced.

From an AOC email.
Today, Pete Buttigieg fired back at AOC and Bernie after they called out his opposition to tuition-free public college. Here was his defense:
âIâm concerned about a narrative emerging, that ignores the fact that not everybody goes to college."
Clearly, Pete didnât read the damn bill! Again, heâs engaging in bad faith tactics to undermine progressive policies. Bernieâs bill clearly states that trade schools, apprenticeships, and community colleges are included!
Why didnât you all drop out 3 days ago ffs.
Harris drop out odds skyrocketed the last day or two but lol me for brain cells not figuring out what that meant.
How is it bad faith to say that there are people in this country who do not want to go to college? How is it bad faith to say that not everyone in this country should be required to go to college to make a good living?
Do you think that Bernie thinks that everyone should be required to go to college to make a good living?
It reads more like non sequitur than bad faith
Like if I was to advertise that 38 Special was performing tonight at my night club and there was no cover charge and someone responded with, âIâm concerned about a narrative emerging which ignores the fact that not everyone enjoys bland Southern Rock performed by Lynard Skynard wannabes.â OK THEN THANK U FOR WEIGHING IN
Uh the idea though is that there is a cover and people not going to the concert are forced to pay for it.
Iâm not even necessarily saying thatâs a bad thing, just Iâm not really buying into all this âZOMG Bernie is being attacked FROM THE RIGHTâ outrage. If your proposals are radically left-wing (again, not saying thatâs wrong) its perfectly natural to be attacked from the right.
Sometimes wish there were some candidate proposing some K-20 free doctorals for everyone! education just to see how the Bernie crowd responds.
The idea is that education should be viewed as a right, just as health care should as be viewed as a right. Sure, some people wonât go to college. Sure, some people donât have a uterus and wonât need coverage for certain medical procedures.
Iâm more of a big government advocate of a modern welfare state and the notion of the common good. I would be concerned that Buttigieg seems to think that people should approach government in terms of what it can directly do for them. Increased college education is a good thing for society. Yes, not everyone goes to college, so there should also be government programs that provide more benefit to those who do not go to college. We shouldnât be encouraging people to look at every individual government and ask âwhatâs in it for meâ?
Just pay some profs to tape lectures and put it all free on youtube. Way cheaper.
Okay then, what is the mayor saying really? That there should be zero dollars of taxpayer funds spent on higher education because not everyone will use it? I mean, this follows logically does it not? And thatâs not just âattacking from the right,â thatâs literally a right-wing talking point.
If he thinks there should be some taxpayer funding of college then the original statement doesnât make sense.
Next up: Mayor Pete proposes eliminating social security contributions from high income earners because they wonât be eligible to receive the benefits.
