Who will run in 2020?

Geek culture has literally conquered pop culture. I’m sure that was an accident.

I think most Americans would prefer a geek over a politician after the last 30-40 years.

The sooner we get away from these career politicians and their bullshit the better. There’s a reason why AOC sprung upon us straight from being a bartender. Career politicians who have been lusting after power their whole lives are literally the least qualified people on the planet to decide what’s best for the rest of us. Nearly every one has a personality disorder or they wouldn’t have taken the first step on the path they are walking.

We need mission driven people who are trying to get power to achieve something outside of themselves. I like Warren, and to a lesser extent Bernie largely because I feel like they aren’t in it to enrich themselves. I feel like billionaires and people who ascend in modern politics have a lot in common. They are in it to aggrandize themselves and basically barely see other people as human. At least Bernie has hit a ceiling because he’s never been willing to compromise on his beliefs and Warren had a whole other very successful career as a law professor. They aren’t typical career politicians and it shows. The rest of them? Fuck 'em.

Hell no! Is Gabbard for the wall?! If so, I’ll change my mind about her real quick

Maybe a lot of Americans would prefer a candidate who reminds them of Deadpool more than one who reminds them of Superman.

Pretty much every Democrat is for some kind of walls or fences or whatever or at least they were before 2015. Many of them campaigned on it. Obama signed at least one border security bill for $600M. Half the time Dems criticize Trump’s wall it’s because it’s ineffective. Some Democrats have actually been better than some Republicans, but a lot of it has just been them saying the quiet parts quietly. Not that that isn’t completely clear already, but after the Dems nominate Blood and Guts Biden it’ll be even more clear.

A slimy slug would be better that the reality businessbro we have now. Where I’m going is that we aren’t getting anywhere with centrists

No one is glorifying him as a business dude, but he’s smart with some good - never before discussed by a politician - ideas that he’s not afraid of expressing. We also need to get over any collective need to bash all business people. There’s nothing wrong with being a business person. I wanna say Yang is like a small millionaire, if that. He’s not one of the wealth hoarding, morally bankrupt, greedy billionaires that we should collectively hate and disprove of

Yang was recognized by the Obama White House a couple times for the work he did and is on record saying that running the govt and businesses are two different things.

Describing him as a typical businessbro is off the mark.

speaking of tech, this is interesting, if anyone actually cares about comparing stances themselves rather than relying on punditry

I also find it amusing that any time I post to defend a candidate -not named Warren- from unfair media coverage, it receives an immediate fierce rebuke. The three most maligned candidates by the media just happen to be Sanders, Yang and Gabbard. Coincidence I suppose…

Punditry < stances < record

What has Mayor Pete done about tech?

South Bend police trying to create a surveillance network using private security cameras?

It just so happens that Gabbard is the truth they tell to make the lies seem more credible. It’s propaganda 101. Mix at least some real in with the fake. Gabbard really is garbage. Bernie and Yang not so much. I was with you on Gabbard then I did a little bit of research on my own… and yeah she’s scary.

I don’t love Bernie as a POTUS candidate, but not for any of the reasons the media throws out there. I don’t trust them at this point and I do check everything I read as much as I have time to check. The only one that almost never spins a story in wildly misleading ways that I’ve seen is Bloomberg interestingly. It’s all about incentives. The other news organizations are trying to make money by occupying your attention and Bloomberg is trying to sell you information (for a pretty hefty fee I might add) so that you can gamble using it.

By “media” I assume you don’t mean Fox News.

On Chapo this week they talked a lot about where supporters go when people drop out. Not that Harris had a ton of supporters, but I assume Warren or GOPete will get a small bump.

Kamala out. Time to update the spreadsheet. This one came as a pretty big surprise to me.

I think everyone’s pretty shocked at this…I expected her to stay through CA/Super Tuesday at least.
