Yeah lol wat.
Itās not, people are lying about it and the media is running with it
She needs to drop out and endorse him.
You clearly havenāt seen how he performs with the other side of the spectrum. Itās brutal. Iām not talking about appealing to base Democratsā¦ Iām talking about selling liberal policies to undecideds and deplorables. The man is the best Iāve ever seen at that.
Sure, if āthe other side of the spectrumā is right-leaning politically-unengaged young people, but theyāre a small group that I wouldnāt rely on to vote anyways. I doubt heās capturing enough of the deplorable vote to make up for the damage he would do to lefty turnout.
Heād do fine with lefty turnout. Heās for all the stuff they like and is good at giving speeches. Where does all this Yang hate even come from? What about him turns you off so badly?
Why do you assume people hate Yang when they donāt agree with your largely feels-based take on him and his general election chances? Personally, I like Yang alright. I hope he pursues a career in politics after this.
the same place where they measure former republicans and independents who arenāt registered Dems who plan to vote for a Dem primary candidate.
Nice. Schumer should lose his position as leader. Heās already terrible at it, and if he canāt raise Wall Street money any more - which we shouldnāt be doing anyway - heās useless.
I really didnāt expect Biden to be so far ahead in Nevada

I donāt see how this is really getting at what goofy is talking about and, in fact, might be the exact opposite. I would imagine a lot of GOP people who say āyeah sure Iād vote for Yang over Trumpā or whatever would in reality just stay home.
it was a tongue-in-cheek response that meant ānowhereā because they just donāt poll those people/that position.
Staying home is us winning. Just saying.
I want to get back to this for a bitā¦
I fully get why you feel Bernie is more a force for direction than an implementer, but would like to get some clarification on:
Do you think itās a terrible idea on its merit? Or because itās pouring gasoline on a fire? Public colleges used to be free. I see no compelling reason why public high schools should be free, but public colleges should not. It seems an arbitrary cutoff. We could make it 8th grade, 6th grade, or 2 years of college. An associateās degree in todayās work environment is at best equivalent to a high school diploma of the 60s.
Honestly, I need to research his positions on jobs for all and housing for all. Iām not that familiar with it. Iāve taken him to mean that programs like the Green New Deal, which should create a ton of new jobs just in infrastructure. Iāll concede this point until I know more about his jobs guarantee, except to say that automation is going to necessitate we do something big, which will probably be some combination of this and Yangās UBI
Again, Iām not disagreeing that Warren might not be better at developing and actually implementing a progressive agenda that actually has a chance of passing. Iām asking because Iām genuinely curious if thereās really that many people who donāt think that at least a community college education should be free
And yet again, conveniently omitted is that Sanders ties Trump in the Nevada general, while both Biden and Warren narrowly lose
I get that the omission isnāt the point. The point is how far ahead Biden is and THIS is why Centrist Democrats are so pathetic
Edit: I should probably retract this post since weāre only talking about a few percentage points, which is well within the margin of error, but I think my overall point stands
Also you should retract it because the entire article is about responses to a poll of Democratic caucusgoers. There is no reason why the article would include what you mention, which presumably comes from a different poll of the general electorate.
In any case, head to head polls are fairly worthless at this point. Romney was beating Obama by 4 points in Oct 2011 and Hillary was beating Trump by 10 in Oct 2015.
Community college being free would be fine, although thatās largely because I donāt think community college costs currently are really a problem. The problem is that 4 year colleges costs have absolutely skyrocketed because of administrative bloat made possible by grants and loans.
The reality is that we have to fix the cost structure of college before we can even think about pushing them more government money. They get a lot of it now, and have basically pocketed that and then demanded the students pony up ever more after that.
Iām not an expert on higher education cost and I donāt pretend to have any special insight, but I know for a fact that making it free right now would end up wasting at least .75 of ever dollar we sent them.
As to the green new deal itāll be fantastically lucky if it replaces the oil jobs weāre going to cut honestly. Fossil fuel extraction employs a lot of people. In a perfect world the same technical skills that made people valuable in the oil/gas fields will get them green energy jobs. One can only hope.
The thing is the government doing big green projects isnāt how we make the transition to green energy happen. We do that by taxing carbon at 100+ a ton (probably finalizing out around 200/ton). You do that and people in general will get super creative about reducing carbon footprints all over the economy. Then you take the money it raises and distribute it to everyone on a weekly basis to stop this new tax from absolutely destroying poor people. Suddenly private citizens wonāt be able to build green energy fast enough, and to say that VC firms will be interested in green tech will be a huge understatement.
A jobs guarantee is just a bad idea full stop. People need money so that they can figure out what they like doing. Some of them will do nothing, which is fine, because more likely than not there isnāt going to be enough work to go around. Hopefully they make some art or something. They need to try to figure out how to be happy though, not go get some government make work job where they waste their lives doing something unnecessary. I trust them to figure it out for themselves, even though I know some of them wonāt.
As to public school Iām really the wrong person to ask. I think we waste an enormous amount of kids time in public schools, and the whole thing is basically glorified pubicly funded daycare so their parents can work. If it were up to me weād probably make it take less time and teach pretty different stuff. But again Iām no education expert, just someone deeply dissatisfied with his own educational experience from 5th grade (when I stopped being home schooled) through college.
I mean, I think Harris is done, but stillā¦this is ridiculous
