Who will run in 2020?

What does the actual middle class think about our politicians though? In most unions leadership just decided who to endorse in 2016 and most went for HRC. The nurses union voted though and overwhelmingly voted to endorse Bernie.

Yeah nursing doesn’t give a shit about how the economy is doing or automation. Massive shortage and no real prospect for automation doing anything but making med passes easier.

112 people work at the plant I’m at and all but probably 8 make between 40 and 100k. None make less than 40. The second highest wage earner at the plant is probably an electrician who chooses to work 60-70 hours a week and probably pulls down about 130 a year. Of the hourly guys the lowest wage is $23/hour and the highest is I think 30 or 31.

This would be a great example of why losing all those manufacturing jobs over the last 20 years to automation sucked so much.

Incredibly the more they see of the guy the less they like him.

That’s not much more than $40k at the bottom of the range. Where do you think those salaries and jobs are going?

I’m exaggerating about “no middle class”, but it’s pretty shocking around here anyway how low paying factory and many trades jobs have become.

You love to see it

Yeah two of my wife’s friends from back home work in a factory… and they make like 14 bucks an hour. That’s the new normal in lower end manufacturing here in the US. Lots of hours and sub 15 dollar an hour pay rates. To be clear they are in their early 30’s and have worked there for 10+ years at this point.

Pete–Iowa
Warren–NH
Biden–SC

cluster****–NV
is pretty clear right?

It’s a bit more than that because there’s two and a half hours of overtime a week built into their schedule. And they get time and a half on Sundays and double time if their Sunday is overtime. The way their schedule works they work three Sundays in a four week period, and one of them will be all overtime so they’ll get double time on 13 Sundays and time and a half on 26. Then triple time on Thanksgiving, Easter, New Years, Memorial Day (the plant shuts down on Labor Day, Christmas and 4th of July). It is a sucky schedule in that they have to work all these days but if they don’t volunteer for or get stuck with any additional overtime and they show up to work when scheduled a guy making a base wage of $23/hr will end up making just under $60k. And these guys can get all the overtime they want, we’ve definitely had guys come in with a GED and no skills and make over $80k in their first year. And they get health insurance and pension as well.

If you’re trying to recruit for your company, you’re doing a good job.

None of that is clear except Biden, and even that might see some serious movement between now and then especially when he doesn’t get higher than 3rd/4th in the first two primaries.

It’s definitely not out of the kindness of our heart that we pay that much. I actually think we need to raise wages as our retention is quite bad. It’s a brutal schedule.

It’s good that she has a pet, but Liz shouldn’t overdo the relatability thing.

the bias is so tiring

Disagree. One of the things I like the most about Warren is that she seems perfectly happy playing the political game at full speed without limiting herself with silly rules like ‘pitch ideas that could actually happen’ and ‘be respectable’.

If there’s anything we should learn from the GOP it’s how to win a fucking political campaign.
