Who will run in 2020?

This is why I hate libertarians with a passion. Government is the only thing standing between me and the idiot masses.

I still say Biden will get more votes in a general in the important states than Warren would. Even with all the fuckups and UKRAINE UKRAINE UKRAINE UKRAINE UKRAINE non stop.

I havenā€™t really been paying attention to the 2020 debates but just realized that Warren has endorsed Medicare For All? What a gift wrapped present to Trump. Cost estimates start at $14 trillion (Sanders) and go up to $32 trillion over ten years. Thatā€™s totally a winning position when 90%+ Americans already have health insurance.

Might as well run Mayor Pete, now.

Youā€™ve obviously been paying super duper extra special close attention

Honestly, I didnā€™t think there was much to pay attention to. I know everything Biden would say. I know everything Sanders will say. I thought Warren was smart but apparently she is an idiot.

We got a live one!

Why do you think all the other candidates are running away from Bernieā€™s plan? The only way Trump wins is if you beat yourself. All you need to do is give vague answers about a public option and increasing taxes on the wealthy.

Im going through Youtube clips now where they ask her about raising taxes to pay for it and she is rambling on for ten minutes like someone who wandered away from an assisted living facility. This is a complete disaster.

Warrenā€™s message hasnā€™t been great wrt M4all and as Bernie wrote the bill its better for M4all supporters to vote for him, imo.

Trump: My health care plan is something about lines between states.

Everyone on earth not Bernie Sanders: I support more liberal healthcare stuff. Tax the rich. Derp.

Warren: I support this super specific healthcare plan that is going to cost between $14-$30 trillion.

Lisa Simpson obviously learned nothing from 2016.

this x100

I see youā€™ve done a lot of research about the cost of those plans. Whats the current projected cost of healthcare in America over the next 10 years if we do nothing? How does it compare?

The trouble is, at some nebulous point in this primary, maybe back around march? April? All of a sudden, the term ā€œmedicare for allā€ came to mean, at least for the far left, Bernieā€™s plan, eliminate insurance companies, and do it in 4 years. Now if you arenā€™t for Bernieā€™s 4-year plan, youā€™re ā€œagainst M4Aā€ and should be summarily drawn and quartered for being a republican.

I mean, if you had asked me in February if I was for ā€œmedicare for allā€ i would have said yes. I mean, I still am, but I am NOT for Bernieā€™s plan, and I think we need a more measured approach. I know that makes me pariah and outcast on this board, but itā€™s true. If I could mash up Kamalaā€™s, Betos, and Peteā€™s plans (taking some from each) that would probably be my preference.

Skydiver8,

Does Mayor Pete have a plan intending to lead to publicly paid for medical care or coverage for everyone in any time frame?

Weā€™ve been through this regarding the messaging. Medicare for All meant single payer. When the establishment saw that the messaging was working well, they co-opted it to use it for more moderate plans. Now the left is doing its best to grab it back.

You conveniently leave out the first part every single time you bring it up.

Not entirely sure it applies the same way. His plan immediately enrolls low income uninsured and those in states that refuse medicaid expansion, but thereā€™s no upper time limit. But thatā€™s why I said a mashup of Kamala and Betoā€™s plan, with Peteā€™s. 10 years is more realistic than 4, though still a tad ambitious, imho.

Also, I would love to see anyone elseā€™s plan address hospital and admin costs like Peteā€™s does.

Ugh, Cuse, I ā€œleave it outā€ because in MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE itā€™s exactly how I say it was. Medicare for all, to me and many like me (who werenā€™t as tuned into the debate or whatever), meant universal coverage. I mean, you can choose to believe Iā€™m lying, I guess. Stop accusing me of that bullshit, because it isnā€™t fucking true.

And back to lurking I go, because hereā€™s the long and short of it: Health care is not one of my top issues for this election, and since this thread is only ever about it, Iā€™ll go back to laughing at Trump and posting pictures of ceilings.

I got punked on twitter several months ago by a Bernie supporter because I didnā€™t realize M4A was a bill sitting in Congress. I thought it was another name for universal health care.

Iā€™m relatively informed, I can only imagine what the general population thinks about anything.

Iā€™m more opposed to the means testing than the time frame. Medical care unless youā€™re not broke. If youā€™re not quite broke, and need medical care, just hold on a sec, youā€™ll be broke soon and we got you. If you donā€™t need much care, itā€™s all good, just keep paying Aetna.

I would refer you to Krugmanā€™s article. I can barely type in complete sentences.
