Who will run in 2020?

You know… morons.

The full quote implies she denies the improper relationship, and the private matter is her divorce:

“The fact is I am going through a divorce from an abusive husband who seems determined to try to humiliate me,” Hill said in a statement to POLITICO.

“I am disgusted that my opponents would seek to exploit such a private matter for political gain.”

Why do you think that? The same people who were talking about how they held their nose to vote for Trump over Hillary will find a way to hold their nose and vote for Trump over anyone running for the 2020 Dem nomination, whether it’s because Trump is pro-life (lol) or some other silly shit.

I’m fairly sure we all agree on this. No one is excited by a boring ass moderate Dem and being so boring is part of why turnout was low for Hillary.

No one does this.

The guy who created the Austin one is real. A real borderline scam artist wannabe tech bro. That dude makes me so uncomfortable it’s unreal. Basically he’s the kind of person who latches onto whatever is hot in the moment so that he can use it to pitch his ‘coaching services’ to people. God I hate that dude lol. Is there anything on earth worse than a crunchy new age libertarian?

yeah, no one actually does this. Mainly because switching is kind of a pain, and the ones who do switch actually mean it.

I’ve only watched like 5 episodes, but this exactly describes one of the rich brothers in Succession.
(It’s a pretty good show, but I almost never watch series TV. I may eventually finish it, which is like my highest rating.)

It’s the best show on TV, and the one you’re talking about is Connor Roy, played by Alan Ruck (Cameron from Ferris Bueller). His story will ‘develop’ in season 2…lol.

Seems to be a common thought around here, but now you have completely written off a large swath of voters who probably don’t think too hard about politics, or never really did before, but now it’s so hard to ignore they are finally examining their beliefs. That’s one of the common themes I see in these stories of people switching for this primary…the people who always voted R because that’s just what people do where they live, but after Trump, they started to really look at their views vs. the party’s and realized they don’t belong.

I cannot understand this mindset of pushing those people away or telling them they don’t matter, when we could be inviting them to join us over here on the correct side of history. Not by screaming at them, but by listening to them.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about conservative democrats? Push them away, too?

Trump is the tequila of politicians. You think you want it, you may even go after it enthusiastically, but after you’ve had your fill you begin to question your judgment and broader decisions in life.

The question is, are they switching and deciding to play for the other team because of Pete, or were they going to switch anyway and then latched onto him when, in his absence, Beto or someone else might have benefited? Probably a mix of both.

I think it’s because not all racists wear white hoods. There are plenty of people who don’t feel they’re racist, but HEY… Enough with the affirmative action crap, okay?! Also, let’s solve our own problems before letting all these non whites in

Those are the white people who (pretended?) to hold their nose and vote for Trump. Of course, the opposite is true as well. People who bought into his drain the swamp message and held their nose at his racism. But the swamp has increased. Moderates do little to drain swamps, so they are the most likely cross over voters imo

Then why do some insist that a moderate is the way to go this time?

The Democratic party leadership in general seems to think that the best strategy to win elections is to position themselves as basically the same as Republicans with minor differences like being pro-choice and for a strong social safety net because for whatever reason they think that’s what a majority of Americans want. In reality this ends up turning both liberals and conservatives away, liberals because they want a party that’s more to the left and conservatives because duh, you’re not going to drink Diet Coke when you want a Coke and one’s available.

From what I’ve seen, definitely a mixture of both, though more of the latter, probably. Bottom line is there ARE people out there looking for a Dem that can appeal to them because they won’t vote for Trump. I’ve seen a lot of those tweets and posts in the Yang camp, as well.

Well, then I guess I’ll just never understand because I agree with all of that

Edit: Of course, I mean I agree with that’s how the Democratic leadership thinks and they want. The difference is, I also think the current Democratic leadership sucks and fuck what they want and how they think!

I see this as a key feature of the strategy that lost in 2016. And not treating them as a key target demo is hardly ‘screaming at them’.

Who’s pushing? I don’t think a candidate favoured by conservative Democrats should win. If you want to tell me they’ll pick Trump or stay home over eg Sanders, I’m not pushing these people away by considering whether that implied veto actually needs to be accommodated or if it can be ignored in favour of more promising approaches.

There are the disaffected who will only be brought out to vote an anti-establishment progressive in the Warren/Sanders lane. There are the never-Trumpers who can be persuaded to vote for a Dem who they don’t think is crazy. That’s Pete’s lane. It’s hard to come up with a candidate who excites both groups. Arguably, Biden excites neither. Both sides should be interested in bringing Biden’s numbers down, but I don’t get the sense that Buttigieg is prioritizing that. In talking to Pete supporters, how many of them seem to see this campaign more about being an alternative to Liz/Bernie and how many want the campaign to be more about being an alternative to Biden?

Yang excites both groups just saying.

We already have the data on which candidate the working class prefers and it’s Bernie Sanders.

um…neither?

I know you might find it hard to believe, but the VAST majority of the people I talk to, the members of groups I’m in, the people in the subreddit, the twitter followers, and people on the street all just really really like Pete. There’s no super strategy to defeat Biden. They aren’t looking for an alternative to Warren/Bernie.

The most common story is this one: “I heard Pete in xxxx Town Hall/Interview/debate and i wanted to know more. So I found some videos on youtube and got hooked and couldn’t stop watching. Now here I am because I want him to win.” and everyone else in the room nods and says me too and tells you which appearance made them sit up and take notice.
