true, he’s giving away a bunch of the wealth and doesn’t play space cowboy. but he’s solidly into perpetuating the inequality by being against the top marginal tax rate over 50. which he doesn’t even pay. if you got to a place where every day brings you 5-10 million, you got some nerve arguing against top rate that’s at least as high as the US had for rockeffelers.

What Biden threatened was unprecedented. There has never been a successful filibuster of a nominee for associate justice in the history of the republic. Biden wanted to make a Black woman the first in history to have her nomination killed by filibuster. Bush eventually nominated Samuel A. Alito Jr.
Today, Biden calls the filibuster a “relic of the Jim Crow era.” But he threatened to use that relic as a tool to keep a Black woman who actually lived under Jim Crow off the highest court in the land. The irony is that now he wants to get rid of the filibuster, and claim credit for putting the first Black woman on the court.
It’s not actually wrong. Republicans push minorities who believe right wing ideology to defuse the Democratic accusation of racism. They’re not even really secretive about it.
Thiessen goes to great lengths to talk about how her views are mainstream, but he never actual describes what Biden’s objections are or what her views are so it becomes pretty obvious that that’s probably the thing that’s being hidden.

Her political beliefs have been expressed in speeches, notably one delivered to the University of Chicago Law School Federalist Society in 2000. Brown’s speech cited Ayn Rand and lamented the triumph of “the collectivist impulse” in which capitalism receives “contemptuous tolerance but only for its capacity to feed the insatiable maw of socialism.” Brown argued that “where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates, and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies” and suggested that the ultimate result for the United States has been a “debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible.”[23]
Her remarks gained particular attention, however, for her thesis that the 1937 court decisions, such as West Coast Hotel Co. v. Parrish , upholding minimum-wage laws and other New Deal legislation, marked “the triumph of our own socialist revolution” and was the culmination of “a particularly skewed view of human nature” that could be “traced from the Enlightenment, through the Terror, to Marx and Engels, to the Revolutions of 1917 and 1937.” She called instead for a return to Lochnerism, the pre-1937 view that the US Constitution severely limits federal and state power to enact economic regulations. In an exegesis of Brown’s speech that was largely responsible for bringing it to public attention during her confirmation process in 2005, legal-affairs analyst Stuart Taylor, Jr. noted, “Almost all modern constitutional scholars have rejected Lochnerism as ‘the quintessence of judicial usurpation of power’” and cited “leading conservatives — including Justice Antonin Scalia, Senator Orrin Hatch, and former Attorney General Edwin Meese, as well as [Robert] Bork.”[24]

ETA: Against my better judgment, I clicked. It was even more hilarious than I thought. Apparently Mitch and McCarthy made a MASSIVE error, trying to discredit the commission by not participating, thinking that this would undermine the committee’s credibility and work. HUGE mistake since the Jan 6 committee has produced tremendous findings in just the last two weeks!!
As a former Baltimore resident, allow me to say fuck Tucker Carlson. Great restaurants, cool bars, cool historic areas, a few great neighborhoods, and a few horrible areas due to decades of corruption, white flight combined with state politicians cutting funding to the city, shitty policing, and blight. And those areas deserve a helping hand, improved schools, improved economic opportunities, and better policing, not a kick in the teeth. Fuck Tucker Carlson.
