I don’t think this is a wrong take. He doesn’t have much of a future in California politics, but he put on the sort of performance that makes him a legit contender for the 2024 GOP presidential ticket. There are those in the Republicans who don’t understand identity politics and think Elder as VP flips enough black votes to matter, so they will advocate for him on the ticket.
