One consistent thing is that the people who were 100% correct about this war from the very start will get dismissed out of hand. They’re just silly “handwringers” that serious readers of the NYT don’t need to bother with. Tom Friedman will take a deep breath and patiently explain to these children that the Bush team has A Plan. This also happened with Vietnam, occasionally we got thinkpieces and interviews from guys like McNamara who realized long after the fact that we didn’t know what we were doing over there. The loopy hippies and others on the left who knew this from the get-go aren’t serious realpolitik thinkers who get retrospective thiknpieces or interviews.

It wasn’t just Friedman though. Virtually the entire MSM was saying the exact same thing. Just wall-to-wall pro-war bullshit, even from supposedly liberal people.
There’s a whole cottage industry of pundits telling us they were dead wrong years after the fact. Meanwhile the hand-wringers who were right from the start are still marginalized and talked down to.

This whole “Biden should have given people more time to get out” thing really doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. If everyone starts abandoning the sinking ship, people are gonna notice. The military and police are going to wonder why they should stay and fight when all the US’s Afghan allies are bugging out. As long as most of our allies stay, they can at least try to sell the military and police on the idea that the Taliban can be defeated.
It seems like either the military lays down and everyone bugs out, as is happening now. Or everyone starts to bug out and the military lays down in short order. There is no “let everyone bug out in an orderly fashion while the military fights a losing cause to the death” scenario.

Getting the fuck out as the correct decision (which is in itself the correct viewpoint) is ENTIRELY unrepresented in the media. A few blue checks on Twitter and Chapo Trap House are the only places you can go for what is, and it isn’t close, the truth.
