I didn’t know I was into 70s Japanese funk but YouTube’s algorithm did.
I am just catching up on how good this guy Orville Peck is. There was a recent comment in a separate thread about the banality of boring country radio music, which I get. But here’s a damned good example of a strong country song. This isn’t about beer and trucks, this is about the long term emotional damage of an abusive relationship.

It definitely calls back to lots of American country music. The overall tone and lyrics are very Outlaw Country tinged with Townes Van Zandt angst, but his voice most closely resembles Elvis in my opinion. You could call it derivative or you could call it literally pulling all the best parts out of post Hank Williams country. He’s certainly not boring.
