I’ve been playing drums for years. Do I qualify?

Serious question. I am starting to record my practice sessions and am thinking about adding video

I have two overhead mics (long skinny ones) that I run into a mixer

I can also run my iPad into the same mixer

It allows me to record my playing along with a click or some backing music.

How do I take this audio file I can create and add it to a video file?

Im using the free audio program for windows

I think if you google the apps you are using and how to sync them there will be results. I know there are tutorials on syncing OBS (screen recording and streaming software) with like Ableton audio. I’ve been meaning to look into this also but my audio interface for my modular stuff has been malfunctioning the last 2 weeks and I haven’t had time to fix it.

So it’s probably nothing like that but there’s this thing called a supersaw.

It’s basically like 7 to 12 saw waves detuned some cents apart. It’s the shittiest thing imaginable.

I didn’t watch that, just jumped to the end to see if max shittiness was achieved with all that gear. It was. If you jump around the middle you might hear some sounds that sound sweet. No. These are the sweet sounds that will be sacrified to the gods of shit.

Here a totally dry one I just made and I had it play straight MIDI of the end of It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye:

Hell yeah dog that is fucking awful.

There’s even a whole genre devoted to the supersaw:

Fuck.

Anyhow…

At some point I decided I could make the idea, in spirit, work and made the superDUPERtriangle! 20+ triangle waves detuned smaller amounts. That clip is a single dry note drone; all the shit going on is the harmonics phasing in and out at different ratios.

In terms of ambient drone it works as a ‘power chord’ too:

I’m just going through my folders looking and here’s the proest protip I can think of:

Name and organize your files well so you can find them.

I have this big file of a bunch of text-to-speech experiments and tutorials. What do you think it was called? “texttospeech”? “TTS_tut_exp”? Nope.

“Penis_7”

Did you do any subtractive EQing of unwanted frequencies? Sounds good but a bit muddy.

Right, that’s the first night.

I mean seriously, that this is your first piece of music ever made, and mostly made in one night, that’s quite the accomplishment. Like you said,

it’s a song, with a start and middle and end

and that’s not nothing. It shows a thoughtful and careful approach to actually creating something, not just fooling around (though fooling around is good too!).

In fact I think I honed my craft the most by fooling around, as you all are about to see even more of.

Speaking of muddy, the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger album I just linked in the listening thread on my studio monitors is much worse than goofy’s song. It’s a great psychedelic album though. Sean Lennon and his gf.

I know it’s 2013 - but these guys are badass. Apparently the local Dennys was closing and they talked the owner into letting them do a show there.

We had a band like this in my youth in KC called the Sin City disciples - different style - more punk-ish rockabilly - but they were so good. The lead singer was a big fat sweaty guy which really limited them to likely staying a local hero band. I still see bumper sticker for them around KC 30 years later. Does every city have a local hero band like that?

Before I get carried away,

this is a granularly synthesized edit of this sound clip of Omar from The Wire:

goofy this is good! Maybe I’m way off here, but I think the thing you’re missing in your assessment is that this would sound perfect as video game music. Imagine the frequencies you’re so used to hearing being empty–but now imagine that empty audio space being filled with monsters, shotgun blasts, lava, footsteps, screams.

Everything else you said is weak about the track is just production and craft. Those are all things you can learn. What someone can’t teach you (that this piece shows you have) is an instinct for the base textures and energy curves. That’s a god-given gift son!!!11!!!
