my family song won
Which was yours?
Extraordinary reveals. I got 3rd twice.
Me upon waking up to see a lot of action in this thread:
oh fuck who submitted Eno
sheeit i forgot how good that track is
And for me illustrates the redundancy of the argument that says contemporary music is better than older music because musicians now are better than previously (the same argument that was deployed in the early 70s to “prove” that prog rock was the best music lol).
Eno had no musical background. “As a result of going into a subway station and meeting [saxophonist] Andy Mackay I joined Roxy Music, and, as a result of that, I have a career in music. If I’d walked ten yards further on the platform, or missed that train, or been in the next carriage, I probably would have been an art teacher now"
Yet in his purple patch he made three albums that are better than any Bowie album you could care to mention (and a fourth that’s better than most of them), and that’s not even mentioning the first two excellent Roxy albums or his collaborations with Fripp.
Lol wait what’d I miss? Who said that?
I remember hitting you with an OK Boomer but was the original debate about that? I was just doing a drive-by.
I’d say that applies to recording and mixing, as a function of technology, but that’s a separate topic.
I won both categories, at last I am recognised! Though whoever submitted John Fahey is the real winner.
Not you.
The crowd (well, me at least) are calling for a @pyatnitski walrus.
If not, I may have to do one after the current parallels finish.
Oh, lol, I know, my brain is fuzzy right now. To clarify, I meant fill me in on details of this discussion, it sounds bizarre.
It’s been mentioned in a few threads here. ICBA to search.
I mean, the level of musicianship has definitely risen since I started going to gigs as a teen to now where even a no-name Bowie tribute band playing local halls has a young guitarist who seriously knock spots off Mick Ronson (and I really like MR) as a live player…but so what?
Also, I can’t find the quote but he describes using a DAW as painting with music. This from the wiki intro is extremely true, he’s a granddaddy of a lot of modern music creation:
best known for his pioneering work in ambient music and contributions to rock, pop, and electronica.[1] A self-described “non-musician”, Eno has helped introduce unique conceptual approaches and recording techniques to contemporary music.[1][2
There are many reasons why contemporary music is poor, and as I’ve said before a major reason in the UK at least is the demise of the art school as breeding ground for bands.
I demand that my songs be ranked against the others as proof that someone listened to them and as validation that I am a real person (or a cared-for bot-intelligence in a real simulation)!!
I liked Cold Coffee
Galt has swag. That Up From the Basement album cover is nice.
Skimming the entries for the 2 categories Riv dropped in here. By skimming I mean I gave most songs 10 seconds or less.
For the family-themed category, naturally my song (NF - Let you down) would have won, but I had to go back for a full listen of Bill Withers - Grandma’s Hands. Really dug that track.
A 10 second sample might tell you all you need to know about a song, or it might tell you absolutely nothing useful at all.
