Yeah, sorry, it probably deserves better.

In 10th place scoring 3 points: Gorillaz - “Humility”

This entry dropped the most after multiple listens. While it’s light, fresh, and pleasant the first time, I didn’t feel like there was too much going on here after the third and fourth time through.

Hey, I’ve been there.

Must be a tough filming location, ideal for a cartoon cast.

A little unlucky, I had in the top half the first way through, but a few other entries grew on me, this one sank as a result.

In 9th place scoring 4 points: Grinderman - “No Pussy Blues”

Hey, it’s a pandemic, I’m keeping my distance and saving lives here, allegedly.

I tried to like this more as I’m trying to expand my horizons, but this is a style of rock I will probably continue to struggle to like. That said, I would have placed it closer to the middle were it not for the noisy, static filled lead guitarwork. This had hurt another song in the last grab bag I judged, I may need to add a word of warning about that to my judging notes. The lyrics are fantastic though.

But I love that sort of thing.

Genuinely thought I was on a winner here, wrong again

So far I can co-sign smrk4’s write-ups. Hope that is a good sign for my own submission.

Youtube’s autoplay followed up with a Grinderman live song. Did not realize this is Nick Cave.

In 8th place scoring 5 points: Lucinda Williams - “Man Without a Soul”

Hey again. What are you guys trying to say to me here?

Ok, kind of like “Love Is The King”, this is a very well liked song, so apologies may be in order. There is undeniable song writing talent here. But to borrow some TV show parlance, this song is a slow burn. The vocals are strong, and there is also some nice guitar in the crevices, but it stayed in the same place for too long. And while it does eventually reach a cool crescendo with a sort of Johnny Cash style “sooner or later God will cut you down” admonition, I was mostly over it by that point.

This one is mostly on me for being in an arrested state of development with respect to rap after like 1997. This could be an average rap song, a good one, or a great one, and I wouldn’t really know. I appreciate that this entry met the extra challenge of having an a 40+ artist making their debut, but I’m sticking to not giving any bonus points for that out of respect to others as I said that wasn’t required. This is good though, it is fair to say that I liked this.

This is the first one I listened to twice.

In 6th place scoring 7 points: Red Hot Chili Peppers - “By The Way”

Some bad luck here because this was the last RHCP album I listened to a lot. Like a lot a lot. If you had chosen something by RHCP or by a former RHCP member that was more recent, you almost certainly podium. I was tempted to deduct a spot or two based on how popular this song was at the time but a) that was 20 years ago and b) this song is very good.

This guy’s voice could not literally sound more like someone named “Jeff Tweedy.” Agree this is a snoozefest, even if the guitar is sweet at times.

In 5th place scoring 8 points: Sia - “Fire Meet Gasoline (by Heidi Klum)”

I like Sia people, sorry not sorry. “Breathe Me” in the Six Feet Under finale slayed me – still by far the best ending to any drama I have ever watched. There is a short moment in “Fire Meet Gasoline” that bothers me when she doubles up lines in a similar way to “1-2-3 drink 1-2-3 drink” from Chandelier, but the last few minutes of the track are very satisfying to me. Submitter mentioned possibly entering “Elastic Heart”; may have done 1 spot worse due to it having almost 1 billion views or whatever, but I am a fan.
