Walrus Grab Bag 3 Reveal

wow, I missed a whole fucking reveal…in which I got 2nd!

Sorry, had stuff to do this morning. Great job everyone!

Gonna be surprised if this isn’t NBZ, although not sure why. I agree with your take, not going to be listening to this again although I appreciate it. The audience losing their minds is fun. This guy is very comfortable for an amateur, I imagine he’s a professional back home? Who knows

Submitting the Go-Go’s seems like a punt. Not sure what’s supposed to be notable about this song. I’m not compelled to listen to the end.

Florence & the Machine is great. I don’t agree that this starts off too slow, seems like a standard song pacing to me. It does get better and better though. Very good selection imo, probably just misses getting added to my playlist though.

Powerwolf not my thing but it’s also not bad I would have thought Eyebooger would like it more. Noting not to submit songs with any slow parts for future categories. Funny aside, my wife decided to listen to some songs with our daughter’s name in it this morning. She puts on one from a band called Skillet(?) that sounds like a growly 2000s pop rock band, declares she likes it, and immediately asks her coworker who is into “hard stuff” if he knows the band. I was like “umm honey this is not metal and also I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a Christian rock band”…which of course they were. Anyway I don’t think Louis would like them either.

I think I like this better when the lyrics come in. Honestly these songs are hard to judge due to the criteria! Hope you had fun with it because it’s cool to get a wide variety of stuff.

I’ve heard this song before and I like it, thanks for the reminder! This one making it into the walrus playlist for now.

This is fire. I feel like it’s more Fugees than Wu Tang though.

A second New Pornographers song! Not bad, not sure I love it either.

Is that guy really the singer? He doesn’t look like that voice should be coming out of him.

Without giving it a ton of thought I think I would have gone with some Haim for eyebooger’s category, although maybe not this song in particular since it’s already pretty popular:

This guess is indeed the best guess. I was afraid the growls could land me in last place so I gladly take 5th. I had a couple of safer picks but I think the altar boy exclaiming “holy fuck” was too perfect for the category.

Wow two reveals i missed.

@eyebooger I hated the video for Saian Supa Crew which is why i added the spotify version without the annoying stuff.

Bad read.

This one was mine.

So it’s 8th place or better for a guaranteed Louis triumph, and even if he comes last only meb or skydiver finishing on the podium will spoil the massive parade that [insert German town/city] already has planned for its favourite son.

(I think a tie’s a tie as breaker scenarios have never been discussed, but Louis will claim a rightful moral victory there on account of 5 first places.)

5 first places is obscene.

yeah, not sure about my submission for Nic’s category. On one hand, it’s absolutely transcendent, musically-speaking. On the other, it might be a bit too familiar to place highly, but I just couldn’t resist submitting it.

Absolutely, but I was just looking deeper into the stats to see if he was also the only person to have avoided the nodium, but he isn’t. smrk4 in exact middle position has also managed that, surely a worthy challenger to Pauwl’s dominance of the Pauwl zone.

I’m not super surprised.

Me, Nich, Matt and Bruce have been hogging those spots.

I must say I did not expect any R.E.M. in this category. Not the direction I’d look for a proper fuck.

First place is also surprisingly chill for this category.

Well done.

When I did research for this category I came across these two which I liked. Maybe some of you do, too.

A band I’ve heard of but don’t know anything about. I actually think I like this, much to the shock of @pyatnitski. Not sure why they upset CM so much.

Is it though? In any case I’ve never heard of this band but I kind of liked this song, although it does get repetitive by the end. CM being harsh today!

Yeah the video is the highlight here, the song is kind of hard to listen to.

This Liz Phair song is annoying to listen to, I could see this one inducing some anger.

Replacements song rocks. Would lose some points for me just because I don’t think I’d listen to it again.

I have no particular feelings on the GnR song but they’re a band I won’t mind if I never hear a song from them again. And I don’t even mean this as a dig, there are just certain bands that I feel like I’ve gotten my fill of at this point.

Thanks for the reveal. The Sunday double feature sure was a pleasant surprise.

I was really unsure on submitting this, but the use (and not overuse) of the word combined with the song message put it over the top. I, too, am surprised and happy it finished so high. His exasperated “fuck 'em” is just…exactly what so many of us have been feeling for a while (since 1992, apparently).

They’re not bad or anything, I just don’t feel the need to listen to anything else by them or repeat the songs I already know. Idk does anyone else get this feeling about certain music? I used to listen to a ton of what’s usually lumped together as “classic rock” in the U.S. and while I still like that stuff, I don’t really care if I hear a lot of it again.

Ive managed 4 nodiums out of the last 5

I get it, but sometimes you just want to drive down the street with the windows open blasting that riff from Sweet Child o’ Mine, yanno?
