Walrus 11thish (Pauwl's) - Reveal Thread

No.

I wish i didnt click to find out :(

These next two might annoy some people. I’ve been overloaded with music doing this Walrus and I’m really getting into this next kind of music. I knew right away that these would podium. If someone had entered some non-western music that I’ve never heard before, it might have beat these two.

My favorite Miles track of all time. Noir incarnate.

I have a hip hop ear so I probably like his more accessible expressions and his fusion stuff more. You almost have to be a music academic to appreciate bop. Ive never heard his rock album, I mean shit he has alot of albums. One gets reissued every 3-4 months on 180 gram hi-fi and I have to just grimace.

Wow, I love the first few Focus albums!

Yup. That’s definitely what happened. File a complain with @ggoreo?

Not sure 5 points would make a difference. Just would’ve been nice to win a category.

So you should have just asked for 13 didge tracks.

  1. Aphex Twin - Rhubarb

“One of the most serene, melancholic gems ever conceived. I hear this song in my dreams sometimes. A testament to the power of vintage analog synths.”

Drunk First Impression

Aphex Twin. fuck yea. I want your soul. I will eat your soouuuuuullll. Pretty chill, he has alot of ambient records as I recall. Give this a serious listen tomorrow. I’m interested in his ambient stuff. I know he’s not all window licker.

Just close your eyes and drift off. Let your thoughts flow
 acknowledging their presence
and allow them to pass. That’s what my yoga teacher says at the start of Shavasana. Or she used to say before all this shit went down. Music like this is what I need in my life right now. I recently saw a documentary on Brian Eno and it said he came up with ambient songs when he was in a bad accident and stuck in a hospital bed. Music you can lay in bed to and it just blends into your world. That’s the ticket.

Easy game.

Always seems his thing is being able to stay still and make it count no matter what’s going on around him. That and playing the trumpet, obvs.

Most music notes are probably superfluous. Fun maybe, but unnecessary.

If you dont know “Richard D James” album Im jealous. Dude made crossover anthems out of IDM and drum and bass. Im talking stuff that rivals the Baroque/Classical classics.

Start with “Selected Works 85-92” (yes, fucking 85, the same year crack hit the streets) then listen to “Richard D James Album.”

Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 completes the must listen trifecta.

A guilty pleasure of mine is his cover of Lauper’s “Time After Time.”

  1. Godspeed You! Black Emperor – World Police and Friendly Fire

"It’s 9 minutes. Sorry. Unless you like it, and then you’re welcome! Canadian anarchists ( @microbet ). I’m a sucker for strings + rock percussion and these guys really do do it best."

Drunk First Impression

I don’t get it. Do I @ microbet. What’s the reference? I’m so confused. I know this band. They’re pretty epic as I recall. Let’s check it out. Nearing the end of the list. Moody. Obscure. K, this is how I remember them being. I should check out more of their stuff. Super long, whatever. Figure it out tomorrow. I like this.

They call this post-rock. I’ve heard that term a few times. It’s somewhat rooted in ambient, but this isn’t the furniture music that started it all. Strange intro music. Repetitive note sequence with a waning violin. Other instruments get added and go away creating a creepy change. Disconcerting. It just keeps building. Something bad is going to happen. Speeding up. Sustained notes to finish. Then it’s over. 9 minutes. Every second was needed. This makes me feel something. This is what I want from music. This is the winner.

I saw Kid Koala live in Austin not long after this album dropped. They had custom animations playing on projector. It was so sick.

My friend girl got too drunk and booty danced on me all night lol. It was a bit awkward.

Yeah, that’s a great one too.

I’m confused as to why SUB assumes he would have won with a different song choice

This is what I should have submitted:

So, I’ll get this out of the way. These are my updated scores. PLEASE CHECK as I made a lot of assumptions based on replies.

So that was back to back for cassette. pyatnitski, cassette, and FuncrusherPlus are all battling for 2nd. It looks like the late entry is kinda runnin’ away with this thing.
