I have a guitar tab book of Neil Young songs that has that on it. I can play “Heart of Gold” and “Southern Man” and parts of “Down by the River” and a few others.

edit: Had to get a guitar brag in

Nicole - A Little Peace
" version in 4 languages from the eurovision song contest"

english version

"Since you said you dont really want the well known songs of well known artists that crossed “Heal the World” from MJ or “We are the world” off the list. So it came down to this or “Word of Mouth” from Mike + the Mechanics.

I went with this because I think it might be less known and gives me some more upside. Its still a strong song that captures my current world view. Especially that she sings it in 4 languages gives a sense of inclusion for much more than just listeners who understand German. Who wouldnt agree in the current state of the world with “A little lovin A Little givin’” to build a dream of a world where we can all live in and not just some selected few. Well and “A little patience and understanding For all tomorrow A little peace” is unfortunately always an up-to-the-minute wish for so many people on this planet."

Review

This is a charming song. I’d never heard of this artist/song before. Her playing a 12 string guitar made me smile. I like the multi-language version the best. I agree we could all use " Ein bißchen Frieden ". Sometimes songs like this can be so endearing to me. Wonderful!

That write up doesn’t sound like Pyat or Jalf. Shows what I know.

In this next review, I might have committed some light blasphemy…

Ginger Baker Trio - East Timor

I spend a lot of time reading / getting annoyed about historical wrongs. I think it’s important, though the reasons exactly why remain slightly obscure and this song says something about that. It comes out of nowhere at the end of a normal rock tinged instrumental jazz record. Abruptly Ginger is hectoring you about something you maybe vaguely read about years ago and the guitarist seems threatening. “Calm down. Where’s this all coming from? Why are you telling me?” Is a natural reaction, and is a feeling my wife sometimes expresses as she is subject to a mild rant just because she’s there. I also love the way he says “There was a bloody war!”

Review

This is so brooding and tough. The righteous speech combined with the accent. So cool. I agree with you:

There was a bloody war !”

The intro music fits perfectly. Steve Earle’s “Meet me in the alleyway” came to mind. Then it cuts off into a guitar solo that’s not really my style but it fits ok. Finishes with some tough sounding power chords. This would have fit well in the previous category. Great stuff!

Deerhoof – Tears and Music of Love

"(I think I’ve queued this up to the :19 mark. I hope that worked and you don’t have to hear the intro each time…).

I’ve had a diverse set of worldviews during this pandemic. Frustrated, annoyed, scared, depressed, mad. Right now I’m settling into a groove and getting ready to quarantine for 6 months or a year. I’ve decided to find what good I can in this situation and there’s a lot more there than I anticipated. Deerhoof’s unadulterated joy is an inspiration. I love the band singing along with the interviewer in the intro. I love Animal on the drums. I love when the bass kicks in for the second half. I love the doofy grins and sideways looks at each other throughout. I love that it’s a little sloppy, the way living things tend to be."

Review

Really cool song. Refreshing. I love the vocals. Reminds me of Blonde Redhead or like Frou Frou from back in the day. Found the Blonde Redhead song.

The Deerhoof song sounds alot different music wise of course. Kinda garage. I love the guitar playing the vocal melody with like a chorus effect at a different octave. Kinda makes it sound like a keyboard or organ. Awesome Boston!

At least I had a sweat this time. Was really hard to stay quiet and not jinx it.

That’s a shame, Deerhoof are great. (Wanted to hate it and call you an idiot, obvs.)

Not pointing this at you in particular, Habs, but I wish we could kill this meme that posting during a reveal is a curse. It discourages the fun of railing and some of the fun for the host, imo.
