smack in the middle. I’ll take it, since I thought I’d be last
This is me. Was hoping the lyrics were good enough to get me at least a middle finish, ah well. I probably wouldn’t have changed it seeing how one of the lyrics is literally “If I can’t breath don’t call for a cop”.

Johnny Cash - I See a Darkness
“I didn’t feel like going political here. Also, my world view is highly correlated with how well I’m running in my various gambling endeavors. It’s been a rough 2020. In all seriousness, it’s a beautiful monologue from the mind of the depressed which I can relate at many times. It’s bleak, but still hopeful in a way.
It’s obviously a Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy song and I like both his versions of it, but was feeling Johnny Cash now (it’s been a rough week).”

I’ve always loved the Will Oldham version of this song. Back in about '08/'09, I shared an office with my counterpart. Somehow she tolerated me playing music without head phones. When this song would come on, she would sing along to the chorus. We were very close. I guess what you’d call work spouses.
I’ve heard the Johnny Cash version a few times. I recall Will Oldham would only let them use the song if he could sing back up on it. You can hear near the end where his voice comes in. The contrast between his fragile vocal style and Johnny Cash’s tough voice highlights the difference in the two versions.
This loses a few points for familiarity but I still really like this song. I originally had this in the top 3 but then moved it down due to the song being kinda obvious.
i demand a recount
everytime i clear the mid-end part i think i’m gonna podium and just as the thought enters my mind i finish 6th again.
They have a word for that.
also ‘obvious’ seems a bit of a stretch for a category that can be really any song you like.

Traveling Wilburys - End of the Line
“This probably sounds cheesy, but I’ve been hearing it a lot lately and it’s stuck with me. A bunch of aging rockers getting together for one last ride (three of them are gone now-- one had died by the making of this music video), looking back at life. The older I get (and the more people I lose), the more I think about death, and the more I think of opportunities not taken, and making peace with where I am now and with what I’ve done in my life. This helps me have some perspective, especially during a pandemic when so many of us feel powerless. Sometimes all you can do is the best you can. “And god damn it, you’ve got to be kind.””

This group has some big name people in it. A scarab and that protest singer. That master-class threnody guy. What bugs me is that mad hatter guy. Never cared for his voice. Nice song though.
don’t think i don’t notice pyatniski liking every post with his ‘easy game’ waiting for reply.

Neil Young with Crazy Horse - Round And Round
" Round and round and round we spin,
To weave a wall to hem us in."
Review
This is a pleasant song. Don’t know that I’ve heard it before. I normally love Neil Young, but the remaining songs were by artists unfamiliar to me that had that special something.
you clearly like my song better than the two ahead of it. the rigedness is out of control
At this point we should all be rooting for 5 first places, pretty sure that would be unprecedented.
i’m rooting for the destruction of the walrus institution

Podium coming soon.
Maintenant, une pause pour fumer.
That’s off his best album, imo. “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” itself is one I would have considered for this if I’d thought of it.
None of these so far are ringing Jalfrezi bells for me.
So here’s a P!nk song a little more appropriate for the week’s events. Just sticking with my theme for the category, though I probably wouldn’t have chosen it for a “we are all fucked” sentiment.
“Down by the River” is my favorite off that one.
