i have switch and PC, never play the switch but we have several mario karts i think.
So we should all spend our next Trump Bux on a Switch?
In all seriousness, what games would you Unstuck play on Switch? All I have for online play is Mario Kart 8. JohnnyTruant said wtf when he saw my point total. Iām not even that good. I just play regularly.
Iāve been playing Breath of the Wild a 2nd time and still finding new areas and tricks I never found the first time. The game is so insanely good, Iād say itās my fave game of all time and itās not particularly close.
Super excited for BOTW 2, but thatās probably not coming for 2 years.
Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Rocket League, Mario Party would be the main candidates I think. 8 Unstuckers in Smash or Mario Kart would be super fun.
Truth. Letās all do something casual soon. I find the intensity of a good Mario Kart race* to be perfect to help me process this neverending sense of anxiety and futility.
*200cc, very hard PC, and the only special items are bombs
@anon38180840, are you into games? Could be a great way to help you get out of your head.
My money is on closer to 5 than 2
I hate to confess it, but I exchanged BotW for Linkās Awakening
Total avg playtime for Linkās Awakening: 10 hours
Total avg playtime for BotW: 60 hours
Is there anything about the game you donāt like? Letās bond over what we hate :)
The graphics for botw look terrible on the wii u on a big tv. Not sure if they aged better on the switch or not.
Still havenāt played either of those other two games you mentioned, I really need to get to them. I think I bought horizon zero dawn a while back when it was on sale so that will be next after I finish up with last of us part 2
I mean, we are now on an 8 and 7 year wait respectively for Elder Scrolls and GTA 6. I cant imagine BOTW 2 being out more than 3 years less than the two of those.
Linkās Awakening is also really good, but I put it in the same category as Link to the Past. While great games, theyāre pretty limited. Youāll beat each of them in 10-15 hours, then put the game down, maybe come back to it a couple years later for another quick play through. BOTW is ultra deep and you could play it 150+ hours easily finding new stuff to do. Itās also not linear like the other games, a dozen players could find a dozen different routes to beat the game.
Canāt really say thereās anything I hate too much. Iāve gotten used to most of the mechanics other people complain about and have grown to like them.
Climbing simulator - I actually didnāt find this too annoying, and the anticipation of finally being able to reach a new area is awesome. You can also power up your character pretty quickly to avoid much of the climbing.
Weapons breaking - Annoying at first, but now I kinda like it b/c thereās a bit of strategy based on which weapons to use where and Iām constantly trying new weapons I might not have otherwise. In the other games, you have the same few basic weapons (sword, boomerang, secondary items) and thatās it.
Few dungeons - OK I can kinda understand this gripe. It probably should have 6-8 overall, but the sanctuaries are quite fun as well and open up a different challenge.
My main complaint would probably be that itās too easy. If youāre in a battle you can easily just pause and spam meals or fruit items any time youāre low on hearts. On my 2nd play through I just used all my power ups on stamina, b/c you never really need that many heart containers anyway. It doesnāt have the same dynamic in the other Zelda games where you have to do the level near perfect b/c getting killed will set you back a long ways. Zelda:BOTW feels like a totally different game though and the fun is more in the RPG and adventure aspects and less in tough enemies and brutal boss fights.
I really like how Crosscode handles food management. There is a ten second delay after consumption, and if you are interrupted in the eating animation while consuming, then the item doesnāt trigger and its returned to your inventory. I like that a lot better than Link cramming 9 steaks in his mouth while everybody freezes and looks at him until hes done.
Yah, youāre probably right. The only thing that gives me hope is Nintendo has pretty much always been in the 4-5 year range between Zelda releases. I think they realize they donāt have the near the depth of titles the other systems have, so itās important that their major in-house releases come often. OTOH, Metroid has seemed to have an infinitely long development cycle and 2022 was probably a best case scenario for BOTW 2 before corona threw a wrench in the plans.
corona threw a wrench in the plans.
RIP Pokemon Go

Yah, that sounds like the perfect compromise. You at least have to remove yourself to an area of relative safety if you want to regenerate health.
But even if that were the case in BOTW, you still have the Mipha power-up and can accumulate like 50 faeries and basically never be in danger. I think the early Zeldas got it right where you had like 2 containers for potions/faeries whatever. BOTW could keep their cooking system, but have it be more centered on different abilities/power-ups rather than health.
Great feedback. The weapons breaking stuff is what mostly killed my enthusiasm. It feels so unnecessarily tedious, but I get that for many people, itās part of why they love the game.
The contained nature of LttP and LA is part of what I like about them. Iāll run through LttP when Iām stressed and need a puzzle Iāve mostly memorized. I like putting the pieces together despite knowing what it all looks like in the end.
BotW is one of those games I love to watch someone else play but take very little pleasure in playing myself.
Yeah that would work really well. As is, its just too easy/has no consequences to dying in combat.
Another great thing about the crosscode battle system is the chain combat, where the longer you keep the combat chain going, the better your loot rewards are, but you have to determine a risk/reward value, as if you die during the chain, you lose all of the rewards to that point and start back at the beginning of the area, but if you stop the chain you regenerate all your health.
Also, if you die on a boss, no matter what stage he is in, you go allllllll the way back to the beginning.

Yah, that makes perfect sense. Re: weapons breaking, I think they handled it perfectly in-game b/c you can fall in love with certain weapons, but with the progression of weapons in the game, you find new stuff quickly thatās pretty bad-ass. Also instead of just using a sword the whole time, you have the option to pick weapons based on enemy type (the heavy weapons are a pain in the ass against lizalfos, etc.)
That being said, I loved LA also and beat it within a month of the release date. Now that weāre discussing it, I feel like it might be time for a 2nd playthru. Maybe on the 1 year anny of its release. Iād never played it on whichever Game Boy it was released on, so it felt like a brand new release to me, and was awesome. However, itās tough to put a game with 12 hours of gameplay and limited immediate replay value in my top 10 games of all time.

Iām hoping that they keep the basic gameplay mechanics of BOTW in place, but add a bunch of the stuff youāve mentioned in Crosscode to perfect the experience. And maybe instead of climbing, they can find a different gameplay mechanic to unlocking more of the world.
My girlfriend grew up with no brothers and had never really played any video game of any time in her life save from a couple random times on Mario Kart 64.
So Iāve slowly gotten her into playing stuff on the Switch. We played a bit of Snipperclips and then on her own sheās played some story based stuff like Edith Finch, Oxenfree, etc.
Then I got her Animal Crossing and sheāll probably put in 100+ hours on that.
Sheās watched me play BOTW, and thinks it looks interesting but too hardcore for her. Maybe I can get her interested in LA. If not, maybe Iāll get the new PokĆ©mon for her. A couple 2+2ers have been raving about Paper Mario: Origami King. That might be worth checking out also.
