God of War for ps4 is the bar i set for a can’t miss, perfect game and everything ive played on ps4 has fallen short of that
I’m kind of annoyed at how obtuse some of the puzzles have been, but that’s my only complaint.
There’s an end game puzzle that has about a minute time to complete for example, but it’s blocked for the middle 50 seconds. I tried to do the first 5 seconds and it didn’t work, but the last 5 seconds was the actual solution so annoying. Only thing I had to look up. A lot of finnicky stuff like that.
More thoughts on TLOU2
Don’t read this unless you want to be spoiled.
The story isn’t very good. It’s just your standard out for revenge story but the second half of the game you play as the antagonist. I don’t think this works well because players are already too emotionally invested in Ellie’s story. That and the antagonist has already killed Joel who is for many people their favourite character. They try their best to make you feel sympathetic towards the antagonist but it just doesn’t work IMO. I’m sure some people will just want to give up right when they realize they’ll be playing as a character they hate for hours.
The game is like revenge porn but ultimately you don’t get the payoff.
same, got the ps4 TLOU bundle and played maybe 15 minutes of it.
Can you expand on the spoiler a bit?
Did ou ever play the Middle Earth Shadows of Morder and Shadows of War games? Both are solid titles and have been out a while so you could probably grab those cheap now.
Yeah I played both of those and they were great, although I didn’t finish Shadow of War. Add it to the ‘incomplete’ list - it was a little too grindy and I think I got stuck on one of the bosses and kept making him more and more powerful.
This is how I feel too although I’m mostly disagreed with when I say so (people seem to like The Witcher 3 more). I think top to bottom it’s the best put together narrative game I’ve played, even if I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as my favorite.
Also finished the game. My thoughts, don’t read if you want to know what happens:
Story definitely has some issues, I.E. the way in which they kickstarted the plot was really messy. We are supposed to believe that Joel whos been hardened after all the shit he’s been through over the years, would let his guard down in front of strangers. I don’t buy it. Then Abby and gang decide to not tie up loose ends in order to get some sympathy votes? It just doesn’t work. If Abby is supposed to mirror Joel from TLOU, which is what the writers obviously intended, she 100% has to go through with killing Ellie and Tommy there, the same way Joel did with Marlene.
I mean I think we’re in agreement that we expected Joel to die at some point in part 2, but there needed to be a build up to Joel’s death with real stakes at play, not some plot device BS. The same also applies for Abby’s story. We needed to spend more time with her before she kills Joel. Forcing a player to play as the antagonist for 12+ hours after they tortured and murdered the protagonist of the first game is a hard sell for anyone. This is made worse by the fact you play as Ellie for the first 12+ hours (which was great) and then right when the climax is about to happen, the plot completely shifts to Abby and you have to play as the antagonist. From the beginning. With most of the stuff completely unrelated to the main plot, in a poor attempt to humanize her character. I have no issues with the overall story they were trying to tell, the narrative structure and pacing is what thew me off. By the time the game finally shifts back to Ellie vs Abby showdown I was kind of over it. Shit got way too ham fisted.
That being said, I still enjoyed my playthrough and even managed to hesitate killing Abby at the end, so I guess the tonal shift kind of worked?
These ones are fun? Whenever I get on Amazon looking at games those ones are always recommended, Bioshock too. I tried playing Fallout 4 a while back as it was recommended, but post-apocalyptic scenarios with zombies or vampires or whatever thrown in is not my thing.
Yeah they’re fun. The ending is somewhat anticlimactic but the combat and dynamic questing and mission systems are pretty neat
The Shadow games are quite a lot of fun imo. They take some fun concepts from other games—stealth and movement from Assassin’s Creed, combat from the Batman Arkham games, exploration from a number of open-world games—and throw in this really unique and dynamic Nemesis system, where the enemy commanders have identifiable personalities that will change depending on your encounters. If one of them managed to kill you he’ll get stronger and taunt you during your next encounter, or they might run away from a battle and find you later. They also offer quite a bit of content for the price.
The main complaint seems to be that by the end game your character is usually mega OP. This doesn’t bother me too much since it’s a game after all but I guess it might get a little boring if you’ve still got a ways to go once you’ve maxed your stats or whatever it is.
Speaking of which Shadow of Mordor is apparently $5 on PS store right now.
I’m not sure it’s that the character is OP, is just that the learning curve is very steep but then flatlines. I struggled mightily in the beginning (think at one point I had to start over since I’d lost so many times that the Orc leaders became too high level for me). However, once I mastered the basics of combat, it became pretty easy.
Then when you add some of the higher level powers, combat became a complete joke. The only way I could get even a bit of a challenge was to engage multiple Orc captains at the same time, and even then it wasn’t that hard. Really the only challenges was trying to see how high of a combo I could get.
It’s still a fun game, just wished the end game scaled a bit better.
I’d rate Bioshock as the best of those games. Mostly because the story/setting is so engaging, with tons of depth (pun intended).
Still think it would make an incredible mini-series if done right.
You might say the last Bioshock game really brings the series to new heights!
I’ve gotten back into Subnautica. Got it for my kids a couple years ago and when it was free on Epic last year, I started playing. Dropped it for other games, as one tends to do.
Started playing again recently and have gotten much farther than I did before, mainly because I’ve gotten braver. The devs did an amazing job making this game really damn scary. The feeling of loneliness and disorientation really makes it immersive.
Have a sense that I’m getting close to the end, but I know there are some things still left to accomplish that are going to be really tough to do.
I just got Nioh 2 and TLOU2, I’ve been playing more Nioh since I figure I need a few hours to sit down and play TLOU at a time rather than an hour here or there.
I love Nioh 2, very challenging, seems I forgot all the skills that made me good at the first Nioh. Only complaint is that the missions are so massive early on that it takes a long time to do just one. Would rather more shorter missions at the start.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for DOS2? I got it, it looks awesome - but a bit overwhelming. Some of my first fights at fort joy are against enemies with 2-3x my health and can take me out in a few hits. I’m playing classic mode.
I tried to look up build guides that someone referenced but I don’t really even know what’s a good build, and the info out there is sporatic and mostly buried in reddit threads.
I’ve also been having fun with Injustice: Gods Among Us, having gotten it free on Steam. I haven’t played fighting games in forever (been meaning to try some old ones on Dreamcast) and forgot how much fun they can be. I’ve only been playing through the story mode and I’m pretty much a button-masher, but it’s cool!
Also tried Ark: Survival Evolved, which was free on Epic last week. I’m not sure if it’s cool or dumb as fuck. Basically, all I do is run away from dinosaurs that are trying to kill me. And you pretty much have to play on an unofficial server because people cheat on official servers, blocking every inch of land so you can’t build a shelter.
The other day, I was doing fine. I built a little shelter, had some supplies, etc., when a “Terror Bird” spotted me, charged me, and killed me in like three hits. I tried getting back to my shelter a couple times, only to see the thing destroying it. I died elsewhere once or twice, then saw I could respawn right at my base (I had a bed, which allows for that). I figured that meant the coast was clear and sure enough, even though my shelter was half gone, my supplies were there and I was good to go.
A minute later, the Terror Bird appeared from around the corner and killed me.
My 11-year old thought it was HILARIOUS.
Overwatch is still my go-to game. I don’t play ranked, so I just have fun in Mystery Heroes and Quickplay.
