Everything I’ve read says play definitive. The build stuff I read says have just 1 pure melee, 1 bow guy/summoner, 1 necromancer (healer)/other caster, 1 pure caster (I’m doing geo). You shouldn’t have any tough fights for a while unless you haven’t got your team together.
Yeah, the first act is hard. Are you playing Definitive edition? Try this:
his guides are for the hardest difficulty, but any of the ones made for a 4-man team will work on classic difficulty, too. For your first playthrough, I would recommend making a team that uses mostly physical damage. Ranger, fighter, necromancer, rogue is what I use in my all-physical damage teams, usually. Anything that does bleeding or piercing damage is physical, not magic, which is why necromancer goes with that group.
As for magic, that’s a slightly tougher road. Fire ad earth go together well, as do water/air. But they don’t mix well, and tend to be weaker at lower levels.
On the last page of that list i linked, there’s an entire video walkthrough that shows the best path to go through the game to maximize xp while not having to face enemies that are higher level than you.
If you’ve already built your team, I would suggest starting over now. Take the Pet Pal talent and thievery skills first. Starting off with summoner can also help, since it’s basically a free extra party member. You can respec once you escape to the mainland. Also, any of the companions you find in Fort joy can be set to any class you want. Since you find them at level 1 or 2, only a few points will be different than any guide. If you aren’t playing as Fane, I HIGHLY recommend taking him along for story purposes.
Maybe I just took a bad chat option. I tried to do the arena in fort joy with my full team - nope, those guys are way too strong. Tried to take on boss camp griff to get a “hero” designation (no idea what this means) and got my ass kicked. Granted, I have no idea what skills or group comps are powerful.
How do I get a healer early on? All the recruitable characters have presets you can choose from but the healer loadout is not immediately obvious to me.
Arena and griff are tough leave them for later. Necromancy is healing, barter with everyone until you find someone who sells necromancy books.
Lohse has an enchanter preset, which is a water/air mage. All the healing spells are in the hydro line, but there’s only one weak one for a while, which you can buy from a lizard under a tent near Griff’s area. You can get some free scrolls by talking to a lady down on the beach and listening to her reminisce about her kids. each party member can do this.
TBH, i never use healing spells.
There’s a much easier way to get the Hero tag. climb up on the walls of the fort where there’s a magister wandering around whining about someone being late. Talk to her for a quest that can be done without fighting.
Thanks for the advice. I’m just gonna reroll. I like playing as fane, walking around with a bucket on my head so people can’t see my skull is pretty funny
one thing I totally forgot to mention that I don’t see in a lot of guides is this: all those battles that start with a conversation? talk to the guy with your tank/melee person, and while they are talking, your other three can set up and move around. just unlink their portraits and they can be moved separately to high ground, whatever.
Also, turns stop “ticking” in conversation, so you can buff the person who is talking, wait for the cooldowns, buff one other, then end the convo and start the fight.
Note: this also works for pickpocketing. Have one person distract the merchant, then your thievery character can sneak up and pickpocket without worrying about the mark turning around or walking away. then gtfo fast and you’ll be home free.
Peace of Mind (level 1 pyro spell) is indispensible. get it fast.
Yea i did a geo/pyro build at first but I think im gonna reroll necro. Is it worth taking pyro in the beginning just for peace of mind? I did pick it, because it seemed really strong. Anything that buffs base stats seems very strong.
You don’t need it on the boat, but you should hit level 2 very fast after that and you can take Pyro then. There’s actually a way to hit level 2 before you even leave the boat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vv1YkqZQbZQ. He uses a summoner, but you really can be any class, just make sure you have a ranged attack.
So basically, I would take necro and warfare when you make your character, then pyro at level 2. Warfare buffs physical damage, so you want that maxed eventually. It also lets you take some early skills that you won’t need later, but will help a ton early on…like the shield toss skill.
Oh! you can also use a bedroll before fights for a 3-turn stat boost
You guys made me bust out DOS2 again. I sunk 45 hours into it earlier this year and don’t think I made it out of the 2nd act.
Starting fresh - I went with Lohse summoner as main, with Fane polymorph/warfare, Ifan wayfarer, and Sebille wizard rounding out the squad. Will probably sink some points into necro for Fane once I level up a few more times.
I can “escape” Fort Joy and still go back in to finish side quests right? I ended up starting one of the easier escapes Lord Withermore’s Soul Jar but I’ve still got a few things I need to wrap up in Fort Joy before leaving the island. Mainly killing the shit out of Griff and his friends.
Steam sale is on.
You can’t go back to any act after you leave it (but you can get out of the fort/into the swamp and go back to the fort if you want).
The Last of Us Part 2:
Better game mechanics than the first one. Ok stealth play against the human enemies. I couldn’t stealth the clickers. They always heard me or were too grouped together. No stealth awards/bonuses anyway.
Beautiful imagery throughout. Ends up being 3 games in one IMO. You think it’s over, but no, keep going. Repeat. They tried way too hard with the story. Gets way overdone by the end.
I enjoyed it up to the first ending playing as Ellie when Abby comes to the Theatre. But no. Hold off. Now play from the start as Abby, going through the same shit that Ellie did, with flash backs to her past life with her father etc . Who gives a fuck!? The Scars side plot. Fun to pay but blech. Then I reached an ending where I’m Abby against Ellie in the theatre. Fuck Off. I didn’t want to fight Ellie. I let Ellie burn the shit out of Abby in the basement. Then the fight reaches the conclusion where they separate and learn that revenge isn’t worth it etc. I’m herding goats in Ellie’s happy new life. But no. Now you’re Abby in California anew. Then you’re Ellie in California searching for her. By the time I reached the 3rd ending on the beach, I didn’t give a fuck anymore. 2nd ending was the same result as the 3rd ending. Just more and more hard times getting beat up and bloody. They just pounded this revenge theme down your throat. “Hey, people really liked the story from our first game. Let’s give them the revenge story of a lifetime for Part 2” SMH

Good few hours into TLoU2 now. I’m enjoying it despite the fiddly control scheme (which is probably partly because I’m an old man now and rarely play anything) and its being a movie with playable action scenes. The lack of a HUD is frustrating sometimes — it’s a game, guys, I’m not going to forget I’m playing a game no matter how hard you try — as is the insistence on seamless transition between gameplay and cutscenes. The latter especially causes frustration when I unexpectedly lose control of the character and, paradoxically, a break in immersion when my character sits there doing nothing for a second or two after some urgent line of dialogue, before I realise I’m in charge again.
Looks absolutely amazing, though. Decent story, though have to smile at the super-earnest reviews from people apparently in serious need of moral instruction from Naughty Dog, Inc lol.
Nightmare scenario last night. Idk if this is relatable or just stupid, but I felt genuine devastation so I’m gonna share.
I’m playing a PS1 JRPG on an emulator, something like 90 real time hours into it, when the game asks me to switch discs. Somehow following the disc change instructions on Google led to the virtual memory card showing zero save files on either disc, i.e. lol, you just lost 90 hours.
It took over an hour of cursing into the void before I found that it had renamed the memory card with my save files and then created a new blank memory card and gave it the original name of the old one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
So yeah, in the end, I didn’t lose the save, but that hour, man, I felt the icy grip of death upon me. Horrible. Now I’m just backing up the saves on my work dropbox, lol, idgaf.
yea i saw this, speculation that its part of their bannings related to sexual harassment, doesnt seem good at all
Also replaying DOS2, one thing that is a big help early on imo is you can pick up any poison barrel and combine it with your weapons to give them a couple points of extra poison damage. It’s not much but early game it’s like a 10% damage boost across the board for free
If you really want to game the system, before a fight, break your group up and only send one person to initiate the fight. Then separately hide everyone else and one by one move them into position. You can then get a free attack/spell/etc. with each of them. They will then join the fight will full AP. If it’s not a status spell (e.g. encourage, etc.) the timer also resets immediately. So if you have a powerful attack, you can use it twice in the first round. Often, this way you can either kill or incapacitate at least one enemy before they ever get a move.
I bit the bullet and bought Civ 6. Have to turn in my sobriety chip now. Also bought Rimworld but it just didn’t appeal to me as much. I’ll probably play it here and there, just less than Civ
