I played God of War on PS4 for a few hours and just never got into it. I guess I’m a weirdo and maybe should try again if this new one is going to be so gangbusters

It says 2018/2019 on it, with a picture of GOD OF WAR MAN on a boat with his kid

edit: It looks like the new GoW will be available for PS4

I beat Gotham Knights today. It’s not as good as I remember the Arkham batman games. The side missions are repetitive, and the fighting is kinda boring. If you’re getting beat up, just dance around (dodge) more. It’s more like ballet with punching. At least playing as Batgirl as I did. You can switch through all 4 characters throughout. I tried playing as Robin and it sucked so went back to Batgirl.

2 bags of popcorn and a ballet ticket stubb

That one’s been getting terrible reviews. I loved Arkham City but I’m passing on this.

Plague Tale 2 is very good so far, feels like a fresh take on stealth action games. Never played the original.

yeah I didn’t love god of war 2018 either… it was pretty but real hallway walker type stuff. I’m sure new one is the same and I’ll probably pick it up whenever but not a day 1 for me. Maybe wait for the inevitable PC version.

In the OG God of War you kicked the asses of the entire Greek Pantheon, 2018 GoW and it’s… Baldur and Freya and some D-list mythological guys? No fighting Thor or Odin or Loki? The big bad guy Baldur’s whole deal is that he has a secret weakness, damn I wonder how Kratos will stop him. I’m still mad about that.

Yeah that was def weird but

Supposedly the 2022 GOW is the last in the “norse series” and you for sure fight Thor and I’d assume you wind up killing Odin as well so at least its not the middle of a trilogy. Also end of previous game it was shown the his kid is Loki.

It would never happen but could you imagine the absolute shitshow if the next game in the series was Kratos or his kid taking on the Christian pantheon? AA Michael, Metatron, 12 disciples lol. Stick a nail through Jebus’ eye.

Or, you know, Islam, but there’d be people murdered obv.

A Catholic version where you fight the A-list saints before fighting the main boss Jesus would be metal as fuck. Chinese mythology would be interesting. Meso-American gods would be amazing but possibly problematic. They’ll probably play it safe and have Kratos fight Egyptian gods next.

This convo reminds me of the Netflix anime Record of Ragnarok where characters from the Bible and Greek/Norse/Asian/Germanic mythology fight humanity’s greatest warriors, it’s as crazy as it sounds. The Biblical Adam fights a legendary Japanese swordsman IIRC.

Yes, “hallway walker” is a great description for how I remember it

Just finished Tunic. Fun little 15 hour-ish game. Combines Zelda with a bit of souls-esque combat (you can dodge roll!). Recommend it to anyone looking for that type of experience.

Gameplay is fine but this is the dumbest storytelling of all time. You’re doing a Viking God of War game and literally none of the Norse gods anyone cares about makes an appearance. Baldur’s whole deal is that he’s a super cool guy and literally every single thing on Earth (except for one thing) agrees not to fuck with him because he’s such a cool guy. It’s an epic tragedy when he dies; everyone is sad about that. This is the guy the designers chose to be the supervillain of the game?

It’s like imagine the original God of War but instead of beating up Zeus and Neptune and shit the supervillain is Ceres, the goddess of grain. Maybe four years later you might get to fight Zeus. What the hell man.

The only way this works from a storytelling perspective is if it does an annoying role reversal at the end and we find out that Kratos was really the supervillain all along, all he does is mess up everyone’s culture and murders their gods.

Uh you didn’t beat up Zeus in the first OG god of war, either. That came in the sequels. I kind of get what you’re saying but but it wouldn’t really make sense to put everything but the kitchen sink in the first game. The first game was the foreplay and the second one will be the climax, and I have absolutely no problem with that. Thor and Odin were teased along with other characters and realms but not a part of the main story. Id rather get 2 packed AAA games than have them cram the entire story in to one.

While it wasn’t open world, there was a ton of awesome side quests and hidden areas and challenges, most of which were quite rewarding, so I don’t think “hallway walker” is a fair characterization of the game. If it wasn’t for Elden Ring, Ragnarok would probably be a lock for GOTY and deservedly so.

it’s a twist on the mythology and I like it. I was surprised to learn who he was and who his mother was. I think it’s great storytelling - you see this weasely drunk looking guy show up at your door and when he punches kratos you’re sitting there like “oh boy you gon get it” and then you start fighting him and you’re immediately like “uh oh”

These God of War takes make me feel like I’m taking crazy pills. If you want to argue, “Hey it’s a third person action game, not really my thing” I guess I could see that as there are lots of incredible games that I won’t play because they’re in genres I don’t like. But nitpicks about the antagonist or calling it a “hallway walker” seem absurd imo, because 1) who cares about the first part and 2) is just not accurate, although there are certainly hallway walking sequences in the game.

IDK maybe this is how people look at me when I say that The Last of Us isn’t that good? The story is good but playing it is mostly a slog, I preferred the sequel quite a bit because I enjoyed the gameplay itself more. Full disclosure is that I’m a huge sucker for how a game feels and if I’m not getting satisfaction from button inputs I often get bored pretty quickly, whereas something that feels good to play I’ll often stick with despite shortcomings in other areas. Currently playing Ghost of Tsushima and find it immensely satisfying from minute to minute despite not being a big fan of open world games.

Vampire Survivors comes to Xbox on the 10th.

If the soldier is still stuck, I bet there’s a console command that will allow you to move it.
