You got me back into Xcom 2 and im doing an RPG Overhaul run. Its so damn good
Steam reviews are very bad right now. Put me off of purchasing Vic3 for a while
Oh wow Breath of the Wild is fun. Coming off of Pokemon Arceus I was a little leery of ancient artifact thatās suspiciously like a smartphone and go and collect items to make things ideas because Arceus had them and it was a tedious boring game, but this game is way more fun. They just drop in you in the game without telling you too much. Itās about 40 minutes in until they teach you how to even fight. Short mini puzzles that can be completed in 10 minutes or so. The graphics are beautiful. The world is huge. Iām enjoying it more and more.
The world record run is 24m15s
That mod looks pretty cool.
The XCOM2 talk got to me, too. I started another Long War of the Chosen. Iām going to try and actually finish it, though itāll take me months. Iām off to a real nice start - Iāve got probably my best ever Skirmisher. My most recent mission had the Viper King (killed him, had basically a perfect setup for an ambush), but my favorite Flamethrowing Technical got nearly killed by a Viper Sniper, so sheās out for a month and now has a fear of Vipers.
Also I can confirm that the Viper King is a Mission modifier, even if you havenāt seen him before and donāt have Shadow Chamber.
I just lost my Ranger captain with blademaster right before tackling the first stronghold. I set her up near a reinforcement drop point, and of course a fucking purifier drops right into her blademaster zone and fucking explodes.

You do,though there is a bit of leeway. And yes, shadowed rangers or reapers are your most important units. Being able to scout ahead, especially after an initial reveal is one of the most crucial things you can do on a map. Scput ahead, move your units into position just out of reveal range and overwatch and you get some nice free shots heading into the next set of enemies
Caveat: this may not be 100% effective in vanilla. Some of the reveal tools available in mods like Gotcha make it much easier to not accidentally pop the next set of enemies
The squad was completely concealed, it was right at the start of the missions. I canāt say for 100% certainty, but I believe the alien ruler pods in LWOTC mod are always near where the squad starts. I havenāt always paid attention but I feel like theyāre the first pod I see. Of course I can still trigger another pod and have it all go to hell, did that in my last game with the Archon King.
I took a 7 man squad, had enough time to infiltrate. Then, because the Alien Rulers are only on this kind of mission (moving in reinforcements to a region), thereās no timer and no reinforcements timer, so I could take my time setting up a good shot. I usually do a full overwatch, and then have a Technical (not sure if thatās the vanilla unit type) that can shoot rockets that do crit damage, or Sniper with Deadeye (I think thatās the skill, that increases damage). I also use an officer that has Focus Fire to give everyone some accuracy bonuses for their Overwatch shot. I took two rangers, too, who both have the skill that allows Crits on Overwatch.
I didnāt have a technical with the rocket crit available, so I sent a flame throwing technical. I was still going to use Rocket as the first action, but the pod (Viper King and two vipers) walked right up to the Tech, and were in Flamethrower range, so I did that instead. All units fired on the Viper King, which got it down to 18ish HP. Next action I sent a Ranger up close, Viper King summoned the portal, and I had the Ranger double barrel shotgun. It still could have survived, but luckily I got the Crit, 21 damage and it died.
I donāt know if this would work in Vanilla or other Mods. Theyāre still hard to kill in this mod, but at least here we get the opportunity to set up a good ambush, and I definitely would have skipped the mission if I didnāt have a group available that would make sense to fight it.
The rest of the mission did not go as well, heh. Iāll really miss that tech - I think high movement flame throwing technicals are my favorite. Lots of Vipers on the mission which arenāt really useful corpses for me right now. I need more Drones, and there werenāt any on the map. I only have two upgraded Gremlins. On my first base assault I made the mistake of hacking a Drone, but it was killed by the Aliens, which - I believe - doesnāt drop a corpse. Your units have to kill something to get the corpse to drop, which I assume is a bug, but I knew about it.
Havenāt had time to play much, and now I think I have to start over because of all these missions with turn clocks. Iām used to being slow and methodical with my squad, kill and advance, etc., but constantly being on a clock is frustrating when youāve got to do nothing but move for a turn and skipping a shot or overwatch. This last one, Iām supposed to rescue a guy in a truck, Iāve killed the aliens with 3-4 turns to go, but thereās a previously invisible red barrier preventing me from going down the street that looks like itāll lead to the where the icon says the truck is supposed to be, so I guess Iāll just take a long ass detour to try to find the path I was supposed to take. And now Iām out of turns, and not only does it fail the mission (expected), but it wipes out my squad. Thanks for the warning on that one, game. Donāt really have the resources to hire a bunch of replacements, so I guess weāre back to square one.
It also feels like an unfair restriction on players that you donāt get two shots. Like, you can move, and move. Move, and shoot. Move, and grenade. Reload and shoot. But you canāt shoot and shoot again without moving?
Iām still wrapping up some of the optional content in Elden Ring, but I expect to be finished soon. Any recs on what to play next? Unfinished (or barely started) games on my shelf include God of War, Uncharted 4, Last of Us, Metroid Dread, ā¦
Iām a huge Last of Us fan so that would be my choice. Then play the 2nd game when youāre done.
Got my PS5 on Sunday and havenāt plugged it in yet, too busy replaying Resident Evil 3 remake. Itās a short game but has surprisingly good replayability, Iām working towards a nightmare run I think but Iāll probably hate myself for it.
GOW Ragnarok comes out in two weeks so you could run both of those back to back. Honestly all the games you listed are top shelf. Enjoy!
Thinking about giving the new Mario x Rabbids game a shot over the weekend
Iām a casual gamer and every time I try to get into something new, I inevitably just go back to Breath of the Wild and play that for awhile.
The Long War and Long War of the Chosen mods have different classes - thereās one called Ranger that allows you two shoot twice in a turn. I really canāt say enough good things about those mods, even though Iāve never finished a game - the Long aināt a joke.
As to your slow and methodical - yeah, thatās the big change from XCOM 1 to this version. They really wanted to force people to play faster and not sit in Overwatch. The map sounds really odd, though - most are perfect squares where you can always go to any spot in a straight line, except for the subways which are a little odd.
Got my first shot at a landed UFO. Unfortunately the Berserker Queen is also on the missionā¦
Mission Expiration is 9 days 17 hours, Iām gonna send in a big group and see if I can take it down.
Would say God of War given it was one of the best games on the Playstation 4. Not a huge TLOU or Uncharted fan although I had more fun with TLOU2 than I expected.
