Gotten back into Path of Exile. Does have it faults (most characters turn into trying to nuke a room as quick as possible), but damn is it well balanced and made.

Definitely the best loot hunting/upgrading reward loop of action RPGs imo. Super deep, can continue to learn game mechanics after 1000 hours. Only weakness imo is the combat could be more engaging/fun. As you alluded to, the good builds end up being 1 button wipe screen and you either get one-shot or are the one doing the one-shotting.

New league comes out in a couple days as well. I pretty much play every league for a month or so until I beat the end bosses and then quit. I canā€™t force myself to make a second character as the campaign is a slog to get through.

Iā€™m confined to bed for a few months, itā€™s day 2. Yesterday was SF V and Xcom 2. I can probably waste a week on xcom alone. never heard of path of exile - does it use controller?

I heard you can clear the campaign in a few hours if you ignore mobs except for the blue ones (and you arenā€™t under leveled that way)

I think anything under 8 hours is quite good. I know there are speedrunners that can do it much more quickly since league launches are races so people spend absurd amounts of time min-maxing that process.

Yes. On console.

You can but after playing through it 30+ times it has gotten extremely old. I wish they would come out with an alternate way to level like pure delve.

So much this.

They just recently added controller support for PC, too.

I think the main thing Iā€™m disappointed with in PoE right now is the Uber bosses, not that they exist, but how they disincentivize fighting the regular versions at all. By costing the same as the regular versions, youā€™re encouraged to sell your frags to players who can run the ubers until your character is powerful enough to run them yourself, so killing the regular versions as a stepping stone of progression isnā€™t there.

The shift from Exalts to Divine as the main currency is going to be so odd this league. From a theory standpoint I like it because slamming rates is fun but used to be never worth it. Divines are going to be absurdly expensive since there are no div cards or shards.

dlk9s jr was having a rough night last night, so I showed him that people other than me thought just the idea of his Binding of Isaac: Repentance mod was hilarious, and you guys hasnā€™t even seen it yet.

He decided to make it public, so here it is:

Not every sound has been reworked, as there are tons of them. And the one thing heā€™s frustrated with is that the coin pickup sound isnā€™t working. He canā€™t figure out why. But overall, itā€™s just silly fun.

I think the best reason to be optimistic about div/ex swap is its impact on uniques, how itā€™ll give more reason to pick them up to check for good rolls on useful ones.

Iā€™m not sure how much more slamming Iā€™ll do this league. Maybe some things like large, 8-passive cluster jewels where you hit 3 notables with harvest crafting but still have an open affix? Or the 6 passive mediums and 12 passive larges where you hit 35% increased effect and 1-2 other things and want more.

Tried the new battle royale brawler on Epic called Rumbleverse (itā€™s free).

Itā€™s interesting, though in my short time playing, I came nowhere close to understanding what I was doing. Cartoony graphics, kind of like Fortnite. The big differentiator is that itā€™s all melee - the characters are wrestlers - so you canā€™t just sit somewhere and snipe.

As such, the fighting has a rock-paper-scissors element to it in that it wouldnā€™t make sense if it was just a button-mashing fest. I mean, it is, and you have to aim and run and jump and all that, but certain types of attacks take priority over others if both connect at the same time. I would assume this leads to all sorts of fighting strategy, which I clearly didnā€™t do anything with. I just mashed buttons.

Tried some open world practice, then one match and came in 6/40 by basically staying away from everyone while I tried to collect items and power-ups.

Certainly has potential. I feel like there will be a bigger gap between those who know combat strategy and those who donā€™t than there is in regular battle royales. I mean, Ninja is obviously light years better than me in Fortnite, but Iā€™d at least have a chance 1v1 if I hit a couple lucky headshots (no, I donā€™t realistically have a chance). Doesnā€™t feel like I could really get lucky against a skilled player in Rumbleverse.

There was a wait of several minutes just to login, which I assume will improve.

Iā€™m enjoying Cold DOT occultist. Any other ideas for a league starter on Friday? I typically enjoy casters in games, though willing to switch it up for something particularly noob friendly.

Iā€™m going to go with Bane Occulust ā†’ CoC Forbidden Right when I can afford it.

Check out r/pathofexilebuilds for inspiration.

I did Poison Concoction PF a few leagues ago and had a blast with it.

I might play Inquis RF actually. Somehow never played an RF build.

This speaks to me

I played RF this past league after I got frustrated with my lightning strike zerker, and I liked it. Itā€™s a smooth mapper and pretty tanky, especially once you get Aegis and melding of the flesh rolling (which will be worse this league). Even without Ashes of the Stars or especially high end gear, it didnā€™t really sweat amped up mobs affected by altars, sentinels map mods, and moderate levels of delirium, so Iā€™d think it can handle deep tiles in your lake runs this league similarly. I wouldnā€™t bother attempting uber bosses on it, though, and youā€™ll probably just want to get a carry for the Maven fight to get that watchstone. Her anti-recovery stuff is a total non-starter for RF. The league mechanic would seem to favor mappers over bossers (although it seems exceedingly likely that there will be a new boss fight either against Kalandra or an avatar of hers), and being tanky over being as fast as possible (like with Legion when youā€™re on a clock), so RF seems like a pretty good fit.

As for me, I donā€™t like playing the same build twice, at least not if it hasnā€™t seen some major revisions, so I wonā€™t be RF this league. I was thinking about blowing up my minions with Death Wish, but the maps to farm the cards for the helmet are all t12+, so it would likely be a while before that was reasonable. I guess I could see how far arma brand and cremation could take me up to then, but it may just not be the best idea. I guess I could also blow up my minions via minion instability and summon raging spirit, but Iā€™m a little skepical about how deep it can go. Iā€™ll have to check out some PoB numbers and see if anyone has a video demo of both bossing and clear. I might actually go Eye of Winter mines on an inquisitor, though. That seems like a pretty solid all arounder on minimal gear that also can scale pretty well (or respec into CoC ice spear or cold reap or something, I dunno).
