Square Enix is at least trying tactical RPGs but their new ones, at least to me, fall down on the storyline, specifically how slow the story is. Octopus Traveler never advances the story even after playing 5 or 6 little chronicles. I played the demo of Triangle Strategy and after an hour of game play I had done maybe 2 fights and a lot of exposition without anything interesting going on.
Watcher is probably the ‘easiest’ character once you get the hang of her. I used to rotate between all the characters and believe I got to A20 with her the fastest, although I have the most clears with Defect (probably since there is a point where decision making no longer matters in certain builds).
I don’t really play it anymore but I agree with this sentiment. They invented a sport, whole cloth, with absolutely perfect physics (maybe not scientifically but in terms of how it feels to play and improve).
My son made a mod (work in progress) for The Binding of Isaac: Repentance in which he replaced the sounds with replications using his mouth. He didn’t make “new” sounds, but rather tried to make the same sounds that were already there, just with his own voice. It’s hilarious.
I knew he was doing something like that, but didn’t know for what game. One night when I was feeling sick (before we both had COVID), he told me he made a mod and wanted me to try it. He named it something non-descriptive to throw me off the scent. I wasn’t feeling well enough, so I told him I’d try it later. The next morning, I loaded it and the first menu sound effect seemed…odd.
Then I started scrolling through the characters, heard his voice, and started cracking up. It’s going to be tough to go back to regular sounds.
The remake isn’t out yet. The original was the first when it came to complex tactical games. I was blown away when I played it as a kid, I’m not sure how it holds up now.
Also, if he has a knack for that shit he should look into Roblox coding. One of my Son’s classmates is paying for his whole college education off the money he made from coding Roblox games.
He’s actually taught himself some Unity and is now taking a weekly one-on-one class. He made some Roblox games a few years ago - one was called Toilet Simulator. Not for money, just for fun.
Cult of the lamb is pretty great but it’s more stardew than hades, follower management stuff, combat isn’t the best. Def worth it if you liked either of those games.
Its a roguelike dungeon crawler + town management sim. I actually really like the combo though he is right, the dungeon crawling is the weaker of the two types.
