Wow, congrats on making Onyx… there appears to be a glass ceiling I always bounce off of around Platinum 5 or 6. You put ONE Onyx-ranked player in my games and they WRECK, going for like 5 or 6x K/D.

That’s why I like watching Lucid so much… I play a lot, and I just can’t fathom being THAT good at this game.

Also, two new maps are coming for Season 2 next month… I’m stoked

Definitely would not consider Slay the Spire a simple casual game, unless you aren’t at all concerned with actually completing runs or improving, I suppose. @Devil there are probably thousands of games that meet your criteria, any particular inclinations? Vampire Survivors was a game that was talked about in here a little while back that you might get a few hours out of on your PC but it might be a bit overwhelming from a sensory standpoint if you don’t play many games. A couple of simple phone games that I kill a lot of time on are Drop7 and Threes.

Anyone ever play Mortal Shell? It’s a streamlined Dark Souls clone that was free on PS Plus a few months back. Booted it up this morning and it seems pretty awesome, definitely interested in digging into it more. I got stuck on the first boss for most of the morning, finally almost got him but died like 1-2 hits away, and now have to wait until I finish work to get back to it.

I’m not near as good mechanically as other onyx players. Especially long range BR battles. If I don’t have a clear advantage on a 1v1 then I’ll just pass and wait for a better opportunity.

I’ll PM you my GT if you want to play sometime. I’ll definitely be playing more when S2 drops.

I have hundreds of hours in StS and I think its pretty casual really, I mean at worst you google a build guide and have it up on your computer but I you can figure out fairly easily what cards work for what builds imo.

Mortal Shell was… fine? Very much a souls ripoff. But very short, 15 hours is my guess. Shell/block mechanic was fun. I have thought about it not at all after getting through it.

I wish I could find another game that gives me as much joy as StS. I tried Monster Train but it just didn’t do it.

I don’t usually think of a game that involves multiple decisions with very thin margins as ‘casual’ but perhaps we’re using different definitions. Likewise for anything I would have to use a guide for.

A 15 hour distillation of Dark Souls sounds great to me, pretty rare that I can play a game for more than 30 hours these days before getting bored and moving on to something new.

Best two games I’ve played in last few years are Subnautica and valheim.

Any other great games in the survive, craft, explore, and gain power genre?

Green Hell is good.

Subnautica was the definitive game of the pandemic for me, I set it on the super easy mode, listened to podcasts, and just chilled out making a cool sea house.

in a roundabout way, Crosscode has all of these

I spend a lot of time with Empyrion - Galactic Survival when it was still in Early Access. They have done a lot of improvements since then and I am looking forward to get back to it when I have the time.

Interesting comparison as I had to stop playing chess since I found the decision making far too stressful.

Agree with this bigly on StS. Have 600+ hours but the vast majority were auto pilot while watching tv and whatnot.

If you want to try for optimal winrate at the highest difficulty, for sure, but you can barely try and still have fun imo.

Are you guys like, clearing ascensions and fighting the heart or just dicking around with StS? I guess maybe you can autopilot up to ascension 12 or so but I think once you hit that it starts to take some thought. Even still it’s hard for me to think of it as either simple or casual, but I do agree with it being a fantastic game.

@grue spent several hours running around Mortal Shell accumulating a massively precarious amount of tar and probably dying 15 times without losing it while searching for the shell names before realizing I can just go to the geisha lady to get them from her.

I mean you can probably spend 100 hours in spire, like I did, just cruising through clearing ascensions for a while with all 4 dudes but yeah I mean I don’t really want to spend minutes every turn planning and mathing out everything and raging at RNG to get beyond that, that didn’t seem fun, so left it at that.

lol - Overwatch 2 beta is live, but not even all the big streamers that Blizzard is featuring have gotten their e-mail invite (I haven’t, either, but perhaps I’ll have a Twitch stream open tomorrow to try to get an invite as a drop).

Got the beta access. Never got an e-mail, but I checked the launcher and there was an option to install Overwatch 2 Tech Beta. Here we go.

EDIT: Played one game. Still basically the same except for it’s 5v5. Everything looks a little nicer. Sound is noticeably better. UI looks good, though the differences will take a little getting used to. Have not used the new hero yet.

I enjoyed Green Hell as well.

Raft is also pretty cool.

I thought Subnautica was great until you started getting too far into the story. The early exploring and building bases was amazing. I liked how you were just thrust into the game with no information and expected to figure out what to do. Once you got the super sub and had to do all the endgame quests, it was kind of crappy.

Yeah, I’m at endgamish and Subnautica is dragging a bit, but it’s still a 9.5. Great game. Should be a few more quest and location tips as you progress.

I’ve never really liked sandbox/exploration-type games, but Subnautica was incredible. Not my “favorite” game of all time, but maybe the best game I’ve ever played. I do see the point about getting the giant sub, but fortunately, you don’t need it much.

Played Overwatch 2 a little more yesterday. I have like 1,400 or 1,700 hours or some shit played in Overwatch 1 and I’ll be honest, playing again after about a year was a little disorienting. Forgot how fast everything moves.

With only one tank, there is definitely more action. Not nearly as much sitting behind barriers. And with Doomfist as a tank now, you can really get crazy.

Again, sound design is noticeably better. The game sounds great.

The new hero, Sojourn, is fantastic, might be OP. I have only used her in the practice range (I just queued for any role and got support every time), but she seems really powerful.

New maps are very pretty, as expected. Overwatch’s aesthetic has always been top tier.

Most of the heroes have been reworked, mainly because it’s now 5v5 with one tank. I probably should’ve studied the changes before playing because I saw some things that I didn’t understand. Orisa and Bastion are very different now.
