Sometimes you could sorta run through. One area, you could pull a switch, then you had like 7 seconds to run down this hall with prison sells on both sides that open up and let enemies out when you pull the switch. If you run past all the enemies, without getting impeded, you can make the short cut before the gate closes again. Then you get to do that again for a longer hallway with more enemies. That skips you right before the boss. I died doing that so many times that I I quit attempting it. The other path was full of guys on the ground to melee fight and casters up on ledges you canā€™t reach, shooting magic shit at you. I would try to bring NPCs through and they would want to fight everyone. Just a huge clusterfuck with casters shooting you in the back. Bringing NPCs makes the boss harder where itā€™s usually not worth it unless there are multiple bosses at once.

In the frozen tundra area, you couldnā€™t run from the lightening unicorns as they flew though the air when the blizzard would pick up and reduce visibility to nothing. The blizzard would clear up for like 8 seconds and you would get your bearings of where to go, then head there and it goes white out again and you get attacked by 1 or 2 lightening unicorns and get turned around and have to wait for the blizzard to pause to see again. Just awful.

Since Iā€™m ranting, Iā€™ll include a fuck up that soured me on the game midway. Iā€™m used to joining every covenant that gets offered to me. So I joined the Champions covenant and kept getting stones to increase it. I thought I was doing something good. Actually, Champion covenant makes the game way harder and enemies hit up to 50% harder and take way more damage. On top of that, I burned a bunch of bonfire acetics in Majula thinking I was upgrading my estus flask. Which instead, keeps adding NG+ hardness to the area. I went back to the basement in the house in Majula and two skeletons that when I first went through died in two slices with my shitty sword at the time. Now they took 8 slices with my juiced up sword and killed me in two hits. I figured something was up. I quit the champion covenant and the game got way better. But I was so angry with the game at that point, by the end, I couldnā€™t stand any big impediments to getting to the boss, so I would swear at the TV and quit.

Itā€™s not really. You cant see, you have to kind of guess if youā€™re still going the right direction in a huge map, takes minutes to get to where you want to go (and itā€™s not clear where you want to go). Meanwhile there are these horses that come out of nowhere, half the time you canā€™t see them before they just brutalize you. They will also gang up on you if you try to outrun them. Speedrunners canā€™t even avoid them sometimes. When you die, the run back takes like 5 minutes.

Man replaying hades because why not, donā€™t remember it being this much of a slog to get anywhere thatā€™s not the main story, always out of nectars too.

Just beat Dark Souls 1 for the first time. What a masterpiece of a game. I have no idea how I would have done it without a guide though. On to #2!

Is this actual real advice before I commit?

That was the advice I got earlier in the thread and for good reason. DS3 was great. I hated DS2.

They donā€™t follow any story that means you have to do them in order or anything.

DS2 is a game worth taking a stab at. Itā€™s not near to the quality of DS1, but well, nothing is.

So just started new file for the thrid time. Got to boss #4 on run 4.

But yeahā€¦I still felt side story was at a fine pace when I started Hades on Hell Mode during my second runā€¦

Yeah like 20sh hours in and eurydice/orpheus havenā€™t hooked up and patroclus/achilles hasnā€™t even been mentioned. And boss #2 is still their original name. Kinda confused. This is after like 5-6 boss #4 kills. And FFS, I havenā€™t banged Meg. Or anyone else!

I really like DS2, but it is definitely not at the same level as DS1. I have Demon Souls, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne as great games and Dark Souls 2 and Sekiro as very good games. You canā€™t go wrong if you pick Demons, DS3 or Bloodborne. Bloodborne has a different mechanic that some donā€™t care for. Donā€™t dally, Elden Ring comes out in January.

I have

S tier - Dark Souls, Bloodborne
A tier - Dark Souls 3
B tier - Dark Souls 2

Havenā€™t played Demonā€™s Souls and havenā€™t beaten Sekiro yet. Anyway, with respect to the other poster, DS2 is very much worth playing but lower expectations after the masterpiece of DS1.

Set a number and I will take the ā€˜overā€™ on sales

Hate that miniboss. Probably the #2 limiting factor deciding whether I complete a run.

My path with that miniboss is to kill the eyes as soon as they start appearing. Most of the butterflies can be killed off with your dash or weapon by that point with Boons, so not allowing the eyes to spawn into their final form is really important.

It takes a while as I just tend to hit the butterfly ball as I run past it to get to more spawning eyes, but its better than having 8 of those guys in their final form running around.

do those guys get stronger from their starting form? I didnt notice that if so, that whole area iā€™m just running around trying not to die and flinging attacks, its terrible.
