I’ve done a few days of OMAD and been working out consistently and got a little bit of a jump on my goal. Lost one lb today! One down, 10 to go. Day to day variation not that meaningful but yay me.
I sneeze I shoot out a pound c’mon now.
Same, but I gained a pound. (Chalking it up to daily variation.) It’s kinda funny, in that I’m probably in my best overall physical shape in the last 5 years, but my body seems to want me to play for the Chicago Bears. It’s hard to deadlift your way to skinny.
Ok I’m in. I have a lot of weight to lose but for the sake of an 8 week challenge I’ll aim for 8kg loss.
5ft 9 121.8 kg aiming to be approximately 113 at the end of 8 weeks.
I cringed typing out my weight even though it’s in my log
weighted in this morning, 197.6 lbs.
Was 227 2 days ago, but after having beer yesterday for the first (and last) time all week and eating until late on the 4th:
230 this morning.
I’m having a final day of gluttony so I’ll post my weight tomorrow
Drank on Friday, recovered yesterday. About to go for a walk and then will lift later.
Wasn’t that pretty much your starting weight at the start of Potato bet version 1.0?
I have pizza and beer and I’m +3 lbs. The numbers on the scale aren’t really the goal. More do I look and feel like I want to. But still have to keep score.
Went for a mile walk but was once again jumped by a tasty burrito. I did penance with a 15 minute ocean swim and an hour long barbell workout, from which I’m currently recovering.
At bottom, fitness and weight loss for humans isn’t much different than for dogs. Less calories in and more calories expended means skinnier dog. Part of the complexity is I don’t like to be distracted by hunger so I really need to up the activity to not pack on lbs. Currently thinking I need 2 hours of legitimate activity 5 days a week, and I need to make that my top priority. In a rational world it shouldn’t be that hard, because the returns in physical and mental well being are substantial.
You sound like our dear and departed 22 comrade, YTF. I don’t know if you are acquainted with his story, but it’s well documented. He said more or less the same thing you did but much more irrationally so. He also started shorter and fatter than you.
He eventually learned that the way that you experience hunger changes as your diet changes. Sure there is a bit of a transition, but your mind/body gets used to it faster than you think.
There’s probably some overlap, but I do think my body and mind incline some toward inactivity and eating a bit too much. I like to be 100% mentally “on” (where I’m capable of heavy reading if needed) and i sometimes find it difficult with hunger. That said, eating too much leads to being tired, and i find that most days where I’ve been hungry for a few hours are good days.
More generally, I have two examples that I regard as successfully managing weight and fitness. First when I wrestled and played football from like 14-17, where I would sweat out 5-7 lbs daily and ate whatever I wanted and weighed up to about 210 (and could squat like 450 and bench 300). A torn ACL disrupted that. Then in grad school where I watched intake and lifted and exercised like 6-8 hrs/wk and was a fit 235.
That’s basically what I’m aiming for again. Covid set back my plan, and I’m certainly not close to trim, but I’m now stong and fit enough to at least threaten a level of exertion that could potentially get me there, ideally by the end of the year (where I’d love to be 260 but a fit 280 is probably more likely).
This is basically what many call fat logic. Change this mindset and everything will be easier. I know it’s easier said than done.
Here’s a “progress” photo for this thread. This is like 308. You don’t want a piece of this chunky boy when he’s at 260.
edit: for some reason fingers are weird in this photo. I can assure you my hands are very normal, with normal fingers, not at all tiny.
250.6 lbs this morning.
Lot of water weight.
195.2 lbs this morning. Haven’t started potatoes, had probably 600 calories of sushi, 350 calories of omega-6 trail mix, then a 10 oz filet and some sauteed onions, spinach and mushrooms. Maybe I’ll start logging calories tomorrow.
