Turbo Walrus: TV theme edition - Reveal!

The next entry makes me sad for both decades

In 5th place in the 80s

In 5th place in the 90s

Alright, lets cover Miami Vice first. Its iconic, its awesome, and it deserves to be higher but it got beaten out plain and simple.

Now, the Xfiles. I got big problems with this entry. I have always said that I have to judge based on what is submitted. What is this? What did you do to the Xfiles theme?

This is the X-files theme. You likely place in the top 3 with it. That techno, house funk garbage over the top just absolutely ruins a near perfect theme.

Arrrrrg

Fwiw, I like the Underwood version better

The knife turns.

Well at least Miami Vice got a bit of lip service. Rock on Walrus King!

still waiting on my 80’s entry, but i agree about X-Files (almost submitted it, dammit). Not sure what that 5-minute thing is, maybe it’s from the recently-released reboot?

I had Battlestar Galactica, pretty close to randomly grabbing whatever for that decade because I couldn’t think of anything.

In 4th place in the 80’s

And in 4th place in the 90’s

Both of these songs are awesome in their own way. I love Fraggle Rock and, for pretty obvious reasons, it brings on a lot of Labyrinth feelings. Such a fun, upbeat, killer song.

At first, the Twin Peaks theme was at the bottom of my list, but that shit drills into your skull and holds you hostage. Its incredibly thematic for the show and I really really loved listening to it.

Both mine, coincidentally. I was hoping Fraggle Rock might get a bit higher, but happy with top half.

Fraggle Rock is solid as can be.

I think it just sounds that way because it’s from the 90’s. I didn’t watch Twin Peaks until Netflix, so the theme song and imagery looked super Canadian to me.

the song is perfect for the show.

lmao i tried so hard not to pick a duplicate. and to pick unique stuff. i mean there were five Wire options, if i’d known those were easy points i would’ve gone for that instead.

Before I get to the podium, aside from shaming you once more for leaving out The Super Mario Brothers Super Show, another couple huge misses from the 80s

And its 80’s spinoff brethren

lol I thought uniqueness would be one of the determining factors, so naturally the song I was most confident no one else would pick got 7th.

I guess I should’ve gone Cheers and The Sopranos for 80s/90s

In 3rd place in the 80s

In 3rd place in the 90s

Aretha absolutely kills this song and it goes so well with the style of show that A Different World was. Animaniacs is the perfect example of a narrative song about what is happening in the credits, and I loved it growing up. Aside from missing out on the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, the podiums for both of these decades is perfect in my eyes.

In 2nd place in the 80’s

And in 2nd place in the 90’s

I actually didn’t have either of the top two finishing where they did in the 90s when I first started listening, but man, this Oz theme is really a perfect theme song for the show. Its so good and just sticks with you the entire time the theme plays. I think “Well, shit, bout to go to prison” which is exactly what I should be feeling while the song plays.

And what more can be said about Ducktales that hasn’t already been said. Its the best cartoon theme song ever. Go back to the 2010’s reveal and compare the two. They just don’t compare. Its a perfect theme song.

LOL, I was holding off on commenting about the 2010 one because I didn’t want to instantly give away my 80s submission…but based on the feedback then, I knew I’d do well :stuck_out_tongue:

The top spot is a tale of two different routes. The 80s theme I knew from moment one would be the top spot.

The 90s theme probably held every spot on the list at one point or another, but its a damn good song and encapsulates the 90s to a T.

In first place in the 80s

And in first place in the 90s

I mean, Come on. Both of these are the best examples of TV theme songs from their respective decades. The Night Court theme is 40 seconds of bliss, and the Blossom theme just makes me smile every time.

And with that, our journey ends. I don’t know what the final scores are but if everyone wants to claim their entries I can make a list.

I had a sneaky feeling it was yours.

Oz was a really great show. I know The Sopranos usually gets credit for ushering in the new TV era, but Oz was there first.

I have 29 (4 + 5 + 5 + 7 + 8).

I was really close to going with Night Court, such a phenomenal theme.
