Trump's America

So, uh, I guess Jewish-Americans aren’t Americans any more because President Florida Man says so. Weird how he has that power.

This is legitimately one of the scariest tidbits to get buried by this news cycle. This is how it starts, and I am not kidding.

Next step: “divided loyalties.”

Trump did divided loyalties a long time ago at the AIPAC meeting.

oh, must have missed that. well, now it can be codified. Either way…it’s super fucking bad.

The idea that American Jewry wants to be anything other than card carrying members of the white upper class in this country is ludicrous. Literally nothing good can come of this, and there is a lot less consensus among American Jews about Israel than Trump seems to think.

Jews spent the last century systematically destroying any legal or social distinctions between themselves and WASPs… and making them legally distinct to suppress anti Israel stuff is supposed to be a hit with us/them??? (My dad converted from Judaism so I grew up with stuff like Sabbath and Passover… I could understand actual Jews having a problem with me grabbing the identity here.)

I don’t imagine it’s anything to do with jewish Americans or protecting them. I would guess it’s more about giving right wing groups and administrators on campuses the powers to attack the people they want to attack, and is ideologically part of support for an aggressive Israel—something which is in the US’s supposed interests in the ME, and also plays well with the lunatic christian right for their own eschatological reasons.

I’m sure the racist reasons being pointed out will be used later as well.

The marriage of clear anti-semites with pro-Israel causes is so weird to me. I think someone here hypothesized it was because white nationalists want a strong Israel so that Jews to move back there? Still, can’t see how any Jewish person could look at Trump and the people he surrounds himself with and conclude, “yes, these people are on my side.”

People don’t care what the actual tenets of their beliefs are supposed to be. The brain will rationalize whatever it needs to.

They want a strong Israel to oppress Palestinians and occasionally bomb Iran for us. And also it’s a handy talisman to say you support Israel so how could you be an anti-Semite?

Ah yes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I forgot that they hate brown people even more than they hate Jewish people.

They also need Israel to move their capital to Jerusalem and occupy more of the middle east in order to bring about literal armageddon. The rapture, second coming, etc. - - the support for Israel among politically active American evangelical antisemites is intended to literally end the world. Just in case you catch yourself thinking Trump is uniquely bad and the rest of the party hasn’t been divorced from reality for decades.

They really are the party of family values lol… This definitely feels like corruption and tribalism as late stage terminal illness for a political party. This is literally ‘Bad Judge’ territory starring the female version of Billy Bob Thornton.

Also Israel is a right wing state and the right wingers have an affinity for each other. In the 70’ and 80’s when politics in Israel were a lot different, it wasn’t guys like Pat Buchanan that were pro-Israel.

The right has no real convictions beyond “Fuck you! I got mine!”

They’ll believe anything so long as it promotes that idea.

Also, they just want a place to be able to send all the Jews.

How the hell do people get into the medical profession and then choose whom to serve based upon personal religious beliefs? It makes no sense to me. It takes years to get a degree and license.
