Trump's America

But are there any Christians who behave in Christian ways?

Iā€™d love to have some kind of Kaepernick troll merch like silicone bracelets with WWKCD or maybe just a shirt that says SUPPORT THE KAEPS. Itā€™s amazing how fuckinā€™ frothy he makes the (totally not) racists.

Iā€™m not sure I entirely get this one. Specifically this part:

"Today, we terminated the employee who, in what he described as a joke, substituted a racial slur for his own name when putting in his own lunch order. "

Unlike the old anarcho-capitalist days - the new forum seems smart enough to not take obvious bait and just play obtuse until the end of time.

Local manager didnā€™t care about the incident, corporate did and corrected the local managers fuck up and the ā€œjokerā€ was fired. They are still assuring people that the employee wasnā€™t racist, just a pranksterā€¦

I am still confused what had happened there. Did somebody call himself the n-word and got fired for it? Thatā€™s what I get from the part @Melkerson quoted.

Reading the article it appears someone called someone else the n-word.

A black restaurant server said his coworkers sent him a food order with the n-word written on it last month, but management brushed it off as a joke.

Thatā€™s totally different.

Guy who works at restaurant buys his lunch there, puts his own order through, instead of his own name, puts ā€œN***aā€ on the order and gives it to his black co-worker. Iā€™m pretty sure thatā€™s it. It is a poorly written piece.

I re-read it. I guess that makes sense.

Iā€™m heartbroken to say that Syracuse University seems to have turned into yet another epicenter of the battle between racists and good people in America. There has been a series of incidents of hate speech there this month, which I just found out about today. The universityā€™s response has been lacking, and a group of fucking awesome students is now six days into a sit-in to protest and demand a better response.

Anderson Cooper has covered it: WATCH: Anderson Cooper Full Circle - CNN

The student newspaper has also done a good job covering the incidents, the racial tensions and the reactions, hereā€™s one link: Timeline: Hate crimes, incidents at or near Syracuse University - The Daily Orange

The most harrowing thing thatā€™s happened so far was a white supremacist manifesto written by the Christchurch shooter being airdropped to everyone in the campus library the other day.

The students who have organized for the sit-in are on social media here: https://twitter.com/notagain_su and at #NotAgainSU (@notagain.su) ā€¢ Instagram photos and videos.

Iā€™ve reached out to them asking how I can be of assistance. I know theyā€™re raising money for food, but theyā€™ve already got $18,000+ raised so I think theyā€™re probably good to go on that. Iā€™m hoping theyā€™ll get back to me and I can help out in another way.

Iā€™m terrified that my alma mater is going to be the site of another racist terror attack and ashamed of the chancellorā€™s weak response, but also incredibly proud of all of the kids (and faculty) bravely organizing to try to hold the university accountable despite an increased number of threats against minorities and those supporting the sit-in.

I think you know I dislike the Orange as much as the next reasonable person should but you seem very leveled headed for a Syracuse grad. (Totally just kidding around).

Those kids with the sit in are very awesome and I wish them the best. Iā€™d hope my university would react like those kids.

Just read an article and Boheim seems to have gotten on the right side of this which is good. Heā€™s always seemed like a decent dude.

Heā€™s an enormous prick, even if heā€™s slightly (slightly) less scummy than the typical major program coach.

Iā€™d like to say any reasonable person should love the 'Cuse, but right now the school is not very lovable. Many of the students are being amazing though.

I think most would these days, but itā€™s hard to say and itā€™s hard to quantify the threat theyā€™re under after that manifesto dropped.

He unfortunately started out in his usual cantankerous way by trying to downplay it all and sort of crapping on the protesters. He then learned more, showed up to the protest to talk to them all and brought them pizza. They talked with him and he told them he supports them 100% and they then voted to reject the pizza due to his initial comments lolā€¦

College Kids Reject Free Pizza From Legendary Basketball Coach is quite the scenario that shows just how pissed they areā€¦ and good for them.

75 year old guy, reacts like a typical 75 year old guy, then reconsiders, takes the effort to talk to the protesters, offers pizza, after telling them he supports them 100%. They then take the moral high ground so they can feel better about them selves.

Yeah, I spotted the assholes here. It isnā€™t the old guy.

Late to the party but I grew up extremely evangelical and have read and studied the entire Bible (in great detail and more than once).

I have been an atheist for nearly a decade and Iā€™ve always said the greatest evidence that the Bible is bullshit is the Bible itself. Iā€™d say itā€™s nearly 0% for Christians because when you read the entire book, especially critically, you realize itā€™s such an inconsistent mess, that at the VERY least it cannot possibly be the infallible Word of an omniscient being. And the premise that the Bible is infallible is present in most flavors of Christianity. To me, Christians simply have not read it, or are incapable of reading it.

Some of the newer versions attempt to mask the blatant inconsistencies but you can find gnarly ones in just the first few verses of Genesis. Itā€™s a natural consequence of having been translated, mistranslated, re-written, and re-compiled across several centuries, empires, all with various political and religious agendas.

The convo on the Cuse board is half the people supporting the kids and the other half denying white privilege is a thing and these kids should just suck it up and deal with it.

Gotta love this county.

Heā€™s an asshole and heā€™s always been an asshole, regardless of this. He treats student media like shit, he defends the university on everything, and I know for a fact heā€™s played a role in covering up some horrible behavior by his players.

So, no, the kids arenā€™t the assholes here, regardless of how you feel about them rejecting his pizza. And like him going there and offering support and meeting with them was great, as was bringing the pizzaā€¦ But if they felt strongly about it based on his initial reactions, thatā€™s their right.

Which board?

Itā€™s on the basketball forum about no student section for the game

Itā€™s their right be be assholes, Iā€™d never deny someone that right. Heā€™s always struck me as a jerkish old guy, and Iā€™m sure you know more about covering up crappy behavior by his players - like 95% of coaches.

But they were the assholes. About this only. On everything else theyā€™re right, and good for them.

I figured. So you have two groups of Syracuse fansā€¦ The ones who went to school there - well educated, mostly northeasterners and largely from large population centers, and thus pretty liberal. The other ones are the ā€œtownies,ā€ the ones who grew up in the area, live in the area, etc, and theyā€™re mostly from the suburbs and the rural areas outside the cityā€¦ Outside of the weather, you probably wouldnā€™t notice a ton of difference between rural upstate NY, rural PA and rural Alabama.

I would expect there to be a lot of fans from the second group who are pissed that students are boycotting games because they will think that the team deserves better, itā€™s not their fault, how dare these uppity rich kids protest against their basketball team, etcā€¦ Some will be upset because itā€™ll make the school look bad.

Itā€™s also worth noting that while the student body and alums are mostly liberal, we also were not a particularly diverse school. 'Cuse was very white. That said, I never heard any of my minority friends say anything about being mistreated or anything like that, nor did I see anything personally. There was one standout incident of racism at the student TV station while I was a student, and it was handled very poorly by all sides, in particular the universityā€™s leadership.
