TJ plays a ton of poker in Vegas for WSOP! ...And occasionally eats

At least in that you do something I guess.

Checked into my Airbnb! It’s a cozy 1br studio apartment walkable to downtown. It’s not super spacious, but I don’t plan to be doing much here other than sleeping and showering.

After the cleaning fee and Airbnb’s cut, the total comes to $76/night all in. No resort fee, and I have a full sized fridge and microwave!

Seeing what Airbnb’s and hotels are going for now, I feel like I got a pretty good deal.

So now, I’m gonna sleep until I wake up, shower, maybe make a grocery run for essentials, then plan to be playing the Friday flight of the Reunion tomorrow!

Catch y’all on the flip side.

Even after that little craps misstep, I’ve already made back my flight and lodging, so I’d say it was worth it!

How long can I KEEP it, and what will I go home with, is the question. Well, two more weeks to figure that out

Downtown? Wtf, you should have been playing overnight poker at the Nugget, plus Fremont has better odds and lower minimums for table games. You wouldn’t be the only one carrying around luggage while playing.

I’m definitely going to hit the Nugget at some point

Are you familiar with “social casino” companies like Playtika?

12h? Sleep is overrated.

Slept a pretty good 11.5-12 hours, and woke up around 4:30 am. I googled a 24 hour grocery store and found a Winco foods that wasn’t too far away, and stocked up on essentials. They only gave me one roll of toilet paper, so I got some of that, and some shower stuff and drinks for my fridge.

Right now I’m at Peppermill grabbing some breakfast before I head over to the Rio!

Peppermill is a Vegas institution, it’s been open since 1971 and is across the street from where the Stardust used to be, and now where Resorts Workd is. They filmed scenes from the movie Casino here.

They have lots of purple neon lights as themed decor. And large portion sizes, which I like.

Started with coffee, orange juice, and a blueberry muffin

Went with the Maserati omelet, which is ground sausage, cheddar and Jack cheeses, topped with an Italian meat sauce and Parmesan like you’d find on top of spaghetti.

Price was 37 bucks, all prices before tip. Was pretty good!

Peppermill also has the Fireside Lounge, which looks like a pretty swanky place to grab a cocktail:

Definitely a cool place to grab a meal or a cocktail

After a ride over from an Uber driver who has some SPICY hot takes about Covid, vaccine/mask mandates, and the role of social media, (exactly what I DON’T want to be talking about for my 10 minute interaction with you), I’ve arrived at the Rio!

Beat: this is the line for tournament registration 2 hours before the scheduled start time of the Friday flight of the Reunion:

So now we wait.

I used to go to the Peppermill a lot in the '90s. Both the restaurant and the lounge.

But holy shit, $37 for an omelet and a muffin? Whoooweeee.

The coffee was 5 bucks and the OJ was 7 bucks

I am urging you, compelling you, to go to Shang today for lunch when you’re at the Rio. It’s close by. 5 minute drive, or you can walk it in 30.

Sure, I’ll try to check it out. Hopefully I’ll be over here by the Rio for several of these days!

Good luck, I’ll be following this thread closely.

Soooo, looking at my agenda for this weekend…

There are three day 1 flights for the Reunion, today tomorrow and Sunday. We’re playing 22 levels or down to 15% of the starting field for each Day 1, and combining everyone for Day 2 on Monday.

This is the tournament I most wanted to play for this trip. I think it’ll be the best value and a shot at the biggest money out of all the tournaments I could have played while I’m out here. So I’m prepared to fire multiple bullets at it, if necessary.

BUT, I really want to take a short break from poker and watch football on Sunday at Circa. So the goal will be to bag a Day 2 stack either today, or Saturday. If I haven’t by then, it’ll suck, because not only will I be out a grand, I’ll have to choose between a third bullet and watching football.

Hopefully today or tomorrow goes well and it won’t be an issue

Also relevant, the $600 NLH deepstack event starts Monday, which is the same as Day 2 of the Reunion.

I think it’ll be a good tournament to play, because deepstack tournament poker is more similar to deepstack cash game poker, which is a format I think I play well. But as far as budgeting and prioritizing goes, the Reunion has to take precedence because it’ll be so much bigger.

Of course, it’ll be a great problem to have if I miss that because I’m making a deep run in the Reunion.

If you are going to play tourneys and don’t mind tying up the money, I’d create a bravo account when you are at the cage. You can put money in and then pay $3 to use the kiosks to buy in and skip the line.

In line for an hour 45, guess it’s a good thing I got here 2 hours early. They aren’t even allowing players into their seats yet, so it doesn’t look like we’re starting on time.

The line for registration looked twice as worse when I left as it did when I got in.

Expecting at least 10k entrants, I counted 9 cashiers working in the cage for registration. Great planning, WSOP.

Quite the spectacle, though, as always!
