Well that’s my joker. Time to go to sleep.
hah, I almost chose an MF Doom track. But I’m still alive, so I guess what I chose was good too
This is the part where it gets really really hard. Great job all of you. I have a clear number 1, but 2-4 is a tossup.
I’m the first beastie boys. :D Made that my joker too. This walrus does not bode well for me.

Awesome pick and sorry it barely misses the podium. Nothing bad to see about this one, other than the doors sample took a large back seat to the lyrical attack on Nas. It gets a little lost. I love this song and the whole album.
Podium Alert!
Me too lol
Gahh! I was certain I locked up a podium spot.
honestly, it’s probably more due to the fact that I chose it based on the sampled track, as opposed to the actual submission

This is what I’m fucking talking about here. I’ve never heard of O.V Wright so thanks for this. Absolutely in love with the sample combed with Ghostfaces rap. The background vocals of “Motherless Child” along with the humming throughout the song gave me goosebumps. Good shit.
You were so close. That easily could have been 3rd.
Mine. I think this is the only rap album I still have from when I was younger.
eta: @skydiver8 with the rope a dope. “I don’t know anything about the rapper music”
Never apologize for having superior taste.
lmao, i really don’t
I mean, unless it’s from the 80s and 90s, but that wasn’t really rap…more r&b/soul/pop
I’m saying, my sample track was about as far from rap (musically and probably geographically, too) as one can get…
It really is amazing how pure all the original Wu albums are.
In the beginning, hip hop and disco were pretty much the same thing.
I love that Beastie Boys song and Isley Brothers song.

Another goosebumps one here. This could have been a submission to another category and it probably would have won / podium as well. The submission included the following:
Sample at 1:38 - 2:04
Commentary: A message delivered to Jay’s little brother, Johnny, from his deathbed encouraging him to continue his own career and the work that he left behind. “Johnny Don’t Do It” → “Please Johnny Do It.” Here’s a visual breakdown:
Beautiful message and I couldn’t get the beat out of my head. I can see some thinking it’s a little to simple but it hit me in all the right ways.
HAH! I Win!
(this is me dancing to rap music…oh so white)
