Oh, I’m going to have to go with a mea culpa on this one.
I read this post as if it meant he’d already listened through the gauntlet of songs from category one, and he was excited for the future categories, and then following up that post with the dud alert sounded to me like he was starting the reveal with the dud. Sounds like he actually had just listened to one good song, and then a dud. So, while my emotions might be here:

I tend to try to take roughly 1 category per day.

Guys… I know INDIANALOL but the first Friday of every month is 12 hours of nonstop live music, random taco trucks, and stumbling into friends. I will definitely reveal category 1 on Sunday. Book it. 2 if you chose the same artist and it was a mistake. Most of you killed it. Thanks for participating, I genuinely enjoy this.

With 95% of songs I know how much I like it in the first 30 seconds of the song. There are a few times I get surprised later in the song or with a subsequent listen, but it’s rare.

I have no way to judge how popular or well-known any given hip-hop artist is, so with my luck, i’m one of those repeats, lol
I would suggest a genre known as “Pop Music” for you. It fits your description perfectly.
I grew up on classic rock radio so it will always be a portion of my music heart.
You should check this out. It covers the Angura movement in Japan from 1969-1973. Post Vietnam vibes. I’ve heard plenty of compilations with international music put together by record diggers. They are always exotic and interesting. None of them possess the esoterism + crossover appeal that this record does. Top 10 desert island material for sure.
I’m convinced that classic rock radio could sneak these tracks in and never miss a beat. I dare you to give it a thorough listen and tell me I’m wrong.

I love pop music. But I also love songs in just about every other genre.
My gauge is if the song moves my butt around in my chair. My butt never lies.
I skipped around a bit. My butt mostly liked what it heard. Some Cat Stevens in there, Wings maybe, early Billy Joel.
