In 2018 Democrats got 203k more votes than Republicans in state assembly races in Wisconsin. Republicans still control the state assembly 64% to 36%. What a god damn joke. It’s shocking how much damage one dullard college dropout can do to a state.
Fuck off Inso. That’s bannable.
Damn so the people in charge had an election, knowing that it will likely kill thousands, because it gave them a better chance to gain power in the state. This action was endorsed by the US Supreme Court afaik. Like if you were looking for an event that marked when you should gtfo of the us, this is it. The courts won’t save you. I guess it’s already too late though, cause it’s not like you can go anywhere now anyway.
Bannable for what, exactly?
In 2014, the GOP held more power as a percentage of House seats than they should’ve based on the popular vote, too. Wisconsin State Assembly is just our version of the US House of Representatives.
In many cases, voters don’t even have a viable candidate of the other party to vote for on the ballot. So considering the sheer population power of Milwaukee and Madison, how is this even controversial?
Edit: Oh, I see. I misread his post as 2014, not 2018. My bad.
You couldn’t go anywhere pre-virus unless you had a quarter million bucks in the bank to grease foreign immigration officials with, We Were Already Fucked.
I’ll delete the first post because I made a mistake.
Here’s our district map: https://maps.legis.wisconsin.gov/#
Wikipedia has a fine article on the results from 2018. Just look at how many districts went 98%+ for a candidate and then look at those on the map. This isn’t a case of shenanigans, it’s just the fact that there’s an extreme concentration of dems in Milwaukee and Madison. I lived in district 17, which went 99% for the democrat, and have since moved to district 12, which went 98.5% for the democrat.
In order to dilute the democratic votes in 2018 to have them win a majority in the assembly, you’d have had to draw some truly fucked up looking district lines.
The one pair of districts that was ordered unfair and redrawn after the 2010 census are #8 and #9. Just the split between those was changed and none of the surrounding districts were altered. There would be no way to turn either of them into a republican one, but what they wound up doing is concentrating the latino population so they get “control” over one as opposed to just strong influence in two.
You’re complaining about it because the headline looks bad and you want to dunk on republicans, but if you actually investigate the facts you’d see that there’s no “there” there. Milwaukee and Madison are just massive liberal bubbles that sometimes get out enough votes to swing statewide elections, like they did in 2018 when Scott Walker lost.
I heard this morning on the radio that only 18,000ish people turned out to vote in person in Milwaukee yesterday. That feels… low.
Virginia just passed automatic registration and Election Day = state holiday.
Good. Why this wasn’t passed at the federal level when Democrats had the presidency, house and senate I’ll leave as an exercise for the reader.
Hilarious how thanks Obama went from sarcastic to the actual truth.
Registering voters is delegated to the States in the Constitution.
So the WI GOP bullshit failed? I’m seeing on Twitter that Trump’s candidate is projected to lose.
Every democratic controlled state should do it.
lol if a pandemic isn’t a reason to vote absentee then there are no reasons
Florida really is going to be a pretty big lift for the GOP this year. The economic impacts down there of coronavirus are already staggering… their unemployment system was basically designed (very much by the GOP) to be nonfunctional.
Also because they waited such a long time to close and their population is very old the death toll is going to be intense. I suspect those two things plus felons being able to vote might put FL out of reach for Trump… and if that’s true he’s finished. Good luck drawing a map where he gets to 270 without FL.
Parson seems to be the absolute dumbest of the dumb. Luckily for him the big cities in MO shut down and have saved him from turning into a Michigan.
Narrator; SCOTUS had other ideas.
Counterpoint: Flip only FL from the 2016 map and Trump still wins.
Putting FL in play definitely does tip the scales to a slight Dem advantage though.
Oh, by the way:
Kelly has a history with WILL, having served briefly on the group’s litigation advisory board about a decade ago.
Right-wingers continue to be all-in on killing voters. This election is going to be insane.
