The War on Voting

This is a good article.

No chance I’m reading that, but I’m glad someone is putting in the work while apparently retaining their sanity.

Makes a lot of sense for the State GOP to advance this. The current blue districts are basically the cities. So duh, if this passes, it will extend the GOP stranglehold for another 25 years. I hate living in Texas.

I assume it’s like a lock to pass?

They haven’t bern able to gerrymander statewide races, but they’re working on it.

Not sure and I’ll have to research more. Historically, Texas is controlled by GOP at state level. The GOTV effort I recently joined is in the process of reaching out to every registered voter in Texas to confirm who supports GOP and who supports Dem. Why are they doing this? Because dems have been beaten down for so long that they have no confidence in their existing intelligence. Somewhere along the 25 year beat down, dems just kinda gave up I think.

My district is the same way. In 2018 when I was out canvassing for our Dem congressional candidate, I got asked more than once if I was afraid of getting shot or beaten up by Trump people.

Democrats out here are in hiding because the No Step On Snek and Trump flag crew is so loud and obnoxious.

In 1981, the RNC gave off duty cops guns and “National Ballot Security Task Force” armbands and posted them at minority polling places to discourage voting". The DNC sued:

The result of the suit was a 1982 consent decree between the Democratic and Republican parties. Even though the RNC refused to admit wrong-doing in New Jersey, the group agreed to stop harassing and intimidating voters of color, including by deputizing off-duty law-enforcement officers and equipping those officers with guns or badges. Over the next three decades, Democrats marshaled enough evidence of ongoing Republican voter suppression to maintain the consent decree until 2018, when a federal judge lifted the order.

My buddy in TX said it won’t pass, it would need a supermajority in both chambers.

Even NY is fucked - New York Could Throw Out 1 in 5 Mail-in Ballots in One District, Disproportionately Hitting Brooklyn

If your post office decides not to (or forgets to) postmark your ballot, it simply gets thrown out even if it was delivered on time.

With all the news regarding the USPS lately, things are not looking good for November

Maybe we should just cancel the election until Trump can figure out what the hell is going on.

Things in Georgia are going…exactly as you’d expect. Not one but two senate races this year.

This map is more encouraging than I assumed it would be. No swing states impacted by GOP nonsense and only the SC senate race is competitive among impacted states, I think.

NY is the fucking worst.

yeah, the big push now that I’ve seen across activist spaces is to get people going on requesting their ballots in those places that aren’t just sending them automatically.

Texas is the absolute worst. They should be a swing state.
