The War on Voting

So it looks like I’m going to move about four days before the deadline to register/request a ballot by mail. I’m concerned that if I try to change my address that late it could be an issue. I’m also concerned that I won’t get the ballot in time to get it in the mail by like mid-October to be safe. Once the move is official, I’ll probably call the local board of elections office and the local Democratic Party office to see what they both suggest.

Any thoughts, though?

Are you staying in PA? If so, use this link once you know your address. It doubles as your registration change and mail-in ballot request:

If you don’t receive your ballot, be prepared to vote in person. Are you moving on October 23? If so, I’d definitely be nervous I wouldn’t receive the ballot in time to be able to check whether they’ve received it which would make me want to vote in person almost 100 percent of the time.

I’m moving like Sept 27, give or take. I’ll vote in person if I have to, but I really want to avoid it - especially since we don’t have early in-person voting here.

Looks like you’ll have plenty of time if you use the online portal.

Georgia is not going to send out absentee ballot applications to everybody automatically for the general election, which isn’t good, but on the bright side, we will be able to request them online by the end of the month. I was about to print out a request, but I think I’ll wait a couple weeks to see if the website is up.

Sort of weird to see someone loudly admit that they have no idea what’s going on, but go off:

Yes, I’m sure the organizations actively lobbying for the dismantling of the US Postal Service so that they can have a de facto duopoly will jump at the chance to help oust the party that, uh, is actively dismantling the US Postal Service.

NJ Gov Phil Murphy (a tyrannical dictator if you ask any Republican in the state) announced yesterday that all active voters will receive a mail-in ballot in October. Every county will have 10 drop boxes for voting, or ballots can be mailed by election day and will count if received up to one week after Nov 3rd.

I had resigned yesterday to voting in person, but I guess I’ll hand deliver my ballot the day after I get it.

Really hoping the Dem governors and Secretaries of State save us in the important states.

Almost guaranteed the Trump administration/R governors would somehow pursue ballot harvesting charges against any FedEx or UPS employees who even handled a ballot if they tried this.

Trump is already preparing to sue to not count mail in ballots that don’t have a postmark.

I’m not sure about other states but in FL, at least here in my county, the ballot I receive in the mail is the exact same ballot they give you when you vote in person.

MA has a track my ballot page: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/wheredoivotema/track/trackmyballot.aspx

Check to see if your state has something similar, and spread the word.

I think we drop boxed the application on 8/14, got the ballot by mail on 8/18, and drop boxed the ballot on 8/19. My wife missed a checkbox on her application, so she had to redo it. Lots of ballots are going to be rejected this year, unfortunately. This is for the 9/1 primary, in which Pelosi endorsed Kennedy over Markey for Senate.
