The Television Streaming Thread: Part III

Honestly, it’s pretty impressive to stick with the show if you’re in group 2 unless you know there’s a massive payoff of some sort.

I was just putting it on when I worked out! I don’t think it clicked that I was watching something special until after ep 5. Saw a lot on the rewatch that I missed the first time around.

Tuturro and Walker were more than reason enough to stick around. Heading back to India next week. Downlaoding season 1 for a rewatch.

Pretty much this.

Man on the inside is … just ok. Way weaker than I was hoping.

Yeah, it is content that has been produced and is available to be viewed. Danson has enough charm to make it watchable.

Same. I am a huge huge huge fan of The Good Place, but I watched one episode of Man on the Inside and said okay not for me.

I liked it a lot, but was surprised how much it tilted toward emotional versus funny as the show went on.

Wife and I have been binging Squid Game 2. We’ve watched maybe 6 episodes so far (maybe 7, can’t remember). It’s really good.

They do such a good job of making me dread what’s to come. I’m fully expecting (SPOILER) the mom and son to face off against each other.

They do a surprisingly good job at making us care about a lot of different characters. There are at least a dozen that have been developed at least slightly so that we love or hate them.

The most cringey thing, though, that always causes my wife and I to turn and look at each other like Beavis & Butt-Head (minor spoiler) is when Thanos speaks in English, especially for entire sentences. I don’t know if this is a normal thing in Korea, but from an American viewer’s perspective, it’s funny.

Squid game season 2:

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck yooooooooooooooooooooou

To clarify, there was no indication in any promotional materials or interviews or anything that this is part 2/3. I would have watched it as if it was the middle part of a trilogy and not as a possible end to the series. Thats a pretty terrible way to end a season all in all.

I had a weird viewing experience, in that for the first 5 episodes I thought it was a stand-alone season and kept saying/thinking how the pacing seems weird, and I’m curious how they will wrap up. Then tonight when we started ep6, my girlfriend mentioned that she heard season 3 will come out in 2025 already… so then I was like “oh ok so this is 2a and 2b is coming later? Damn that changes the pacing and how I think of this season and how it will wrap up completely.”

But yeah, I wonder how I would have viewed the last 1½ episodes without that piece of knowledge. Probably been more underwhelmed/annoyed than I am now I guess?

Hm you can’t have one spoiler tag for two paragraphs, you have two have two separate tags? Kinda annoying.

Yeah thats always been an annoying part of the website.

I was seriously unreasonably annoyed that the final episode of my show about people playing childrens games to win money or die turned into a 40 minute shootout set piece. Like, wtf? And yes, if this occured in the middle of a 14 episode season I would have been far less annoyed.

I don’t think I would have liked it as part of a 14 episode season either, but yeah that would have been better than this. I thought it was stupid but my girlfriend liked it. Overall season: meh 6/10. Finale: bleh 4/10.

No love for Dune Prophecy here? I just binged it over the last 2 days and enjoyed it.

Interesting long form article about the streaming industry but really the history and evolution of Netflix.
